Both as cover as well as rotation option. Kaboul might not be ever back to full flow and extra body can't be bad after Caulker left. AVB wants a streamlined squad with players who can play more than one position if possible.

Yes, I really like to have players who can play in different positions. If you are a good player, you should be able to play in different positions, and it is up to the manager and coaching staff to find out which position is the best for the system they play.

Newcastle need a lesson in that, because last year they had some very good players available, but did not use them in the positions they should have. Some didn't even play.

The reason I like this signing so much is that it further diminishes the possibility of me ever having to suffer seeing Parker play in a Spurs shirt ever again.

Agree, Scotty has tailed off considerably since his first season with us. Think that achilles injury he had, really took it out of him.

Don't think the fans should slag him off too much, as season 2011/2012 he was fantastic

I think a lot of fans forget this, though I do agree he is finished now.

First half of that season you mentioned he was immense.

In a funny way Parker's Spurs career, is a lot like Wilson Palacio's. Absolutely crucial for his first season, after that a write off.

Whilst Scotty is no longer the force he was I don't think we should be so disparaging towards him. Scotty has been reputable in a Spurs shirt.

We demand unswerving loyalty from players to the club but then shit on them when they no longer cut it, we are all guilty of that hehe. ;)

Exactly.

And, as the delightfully-named Spunkmonkey points out above, Palacios had the same career path and many fans were similarly disparaging towards him when he couldn't replicate his early form.

As for Parker, although he now seems to be losing form/quality, I still have the utmost respect for him for (a) lots of fantastic performances and (b) the fact that even now he puts in 100% every time he walks on the pitch. If he were to stay I'd still be happy to have him as a back up to the first team, and a role model for younger players.

I hate the way too may people slag off players here who have served the club well at a time. We seem to have goldfish memories for the good things and elephant memories over any slight mistake or loss of form by players. In this case we bought a player who was not in the first flush of youth who performed a much needed role for us at the time.

Great post! I get annoyed by this too. You can't fault Scotty's effort, much like Dawson he gives 110% most games. Yes he has dropped in form of late but he did a job for us when he came in and thats what matters

Well said! Spurs fans seem to suffer from spoilt brat syndrome and short memories sometimes. Yes Parker tired considerably last season, and isn't the player he was, but show a bit of respect, hey?

As much as I like Parker, I do think he is limited somewhat, but could do a job for a side that is less flush with quality midfielders, capoue would seem to spell the end for Parker or hudd or both, one thing to note is that Parker has captained the side thro pre season, wouldn't be surprised if he was here come January

Capoue is an upgrade on what we currently have and its one of the positions we need to upgrade.
Problem now is getting rid of Hudd and Parker for good money (sure levy will) before the end of the month.

Not got a problem with Parker at all. I think he was very underrated and I could never understand how Barry was ahead of him in the England set up. Looking forward to seeing what Capoue can do though.
