The squad has been announced in full, with no 'B' list for youngsters as yet. Some interesting omissions.. Bentley and Gallas being the most obvious.

Bentley was always going to be omitted. Surprised about Gallas though.

Gallas is injured isn't he? Might not be available until after the play-offs so there would be no point giving him a squad place.

Is this just the squad for the qualifiers ? Can it be revised if we qualify for the group stage ?

I can understand the need to qualify, and playing a strong team initially, only I'd hoped to see more of the younger players in there if not.

Even before the Everton game was called off I wanted to see a strong side purely to get our match sharpness up

Surely this limits our signings as I assume we will want to add sandro and gallas? Or maybe Harry really isn't bothered about it or getting transfers in the squad

Gallas is likely to be saved for league games anyway I presume. He couldn't manage Thur/Sun so not much point in naming him.

Hope this means Bentley's finally on his way?! £ for £ I can't think of a worse signing. Ever. Thanks Damien.

Are the rules are the same as for the Champion's league, and there is an age below which players qualify automatically so long as the club have held their registration for at least three years? (Though I would have thought Rose would have qualified on that basis.)

If that is the case the only players we could not use are Gallas and Sandro, who are injured, Bentley, Alnwick (is he still on trial somewhere?), Button and few youngsters such as Cellabos and Couliaby.

A bit worrying if we can only replace three players - as that would only leave space for Gallas, Sandro and ONE new signing!

Thats the B list that Schitzophonic mentions in the OP.

does anyone have confirmation that we can only change 3 players?

But given Gallas's age and injury record - Harry's probably got no plans to play him in this competition not matter what stage.

Thanks Schits for posting. My reading of the rules (below) is that this squad is solely for the Playoffs against Hearts. We can then announce a totally new squad for the main tournament - which explains Gallas and Sandro's non inclusion and Keane's inclusion for example. The rules suggest we can register one new signing up to 24 hours before the match as well.

18.13 List A has to be submitted by the following fixed deadlines:
a) 20 June 2011 (24.00 CET) for all matches in the first qualifying round;
b) 8 July 2011 (24.00 CET) for all matches in the second qualifying round;
c) 22 July 2011 (24.00 CET) for all matches in the third qualifying round;
d) 8 August 2011 (24.00 CET) for all matches in the play-off round;
e) 1 September 2011 (24.00 CET) for all further matches from the first
match in the group stage up to and including the final.

18.14 For the three qualifying rounds and the play-offs, a club may register a
maximum of one new eligible player on List A after the above-mentioned
deadlines, provided the quota of locally trained players is respected. Such
registration must be completed by 24.00 CET on the day before the relevant
first-leg match and the club’s association must confirm

List B (under 21 players) can be announced much later - I think 24 hours before a match - but they must have played for the club for 2 years. So I think that rules out Cristian Cellabos and Sulleymane Coulibaly making an appearance.

I've always thought you submit a squad for the play offs and another for the group stage, that is when you can make the 3 changes.

What it also sort of suggests is that the likes of Keane et al will be sold late on in the window, if not why not include Kane, Towsend etc...

I know we need to qualify though.
