Llorente tonight was first class, THAT is a lone striker. Held the ball so well, played it into to others and got a very deserved and important goal. How the hell did he squeeze that in? I had him down for a wincast and I knew he would come through :)

Best striker in the world for me at the moment, be surprised if someone didn't go for him in the summer.

Am I the only one feeling gutted here that we don't take this comp seriously because our manager thinks we are above it....? The level of arrogance shown by ourselves and most other English clubs to the Europa League is embarrassing if I'm honest, no wonder Platini and UEFA hate us!!!

Ignoring this competition looked like a good decision prior to christmas though, our team was dominating in the league.

It is easy to sit here and be annoyed we didn't take this competition seriously but it obviously helped our league progress. Fuck if our players are tired now, imagine how they would be if they played Europa? We could make our own fucking Walking Dead.

VdV was annoyed he wasn't included in the Europa squad so maybe the players did want to take it seriously, I still think the competition prize is pathetic, the winner should get a shot at CL qualifiers or something, give it even more of an incentive.

We are pretty much the only nation in Europe who don't take it seriously. As Stan just said you got Llorente is a world cup winner yet he's in tears at the end for reaching the final, that's what it means to them. We have a manager who couldn't give a monkeys about it and concentrated on the league only, look how that has worked out eh....

But it did work because the players were doing well in the league alongside our run in the Europa league....

A season lasts 38 games not 20 odd so NO it has not worked for me. Fact is Liverpool could end up having a far better season than us by winning 2 cups and getting EL and we finish 5/6 and get EL too but got only bullshit hard luck stories to tell due to a soon to be gone inept manager!!!

I'm annoyed we didn't take it seriously but at the same time I'm annoyed at how much Uefa have devalued the competition, there shouldn't be any CL dropouts for starters, and if the champions league was smaller the europa would have better teams. I don't care if we never made it for me the CL should have no more than the top 2 teams in each league. With places 3-5 + domestic cup winners going in the Uefa Cup (which sounds much better than Europa League)

But our league form was fantastic due to our players being fresh and not playing in Europe which is why we were so poor last year, we couldn't handle CL and League. Whether its our fitness regime or Harry just not rotating enough who knows but I am not too disappointed we didn't take EL seriously this season, we can still get CL, the season isn't over, we just need to dig deep and find four great performances.

How tired are they going to be next season if we qualify for the champs lge ?. There is only 1 extra round of games in the knockout phase of the Europa compared to the champs lge. It was great to see how much it meant to the Bilbao players and fans tonight, what a great game and atmosphere. Interesting that VdV was disappointed not to be included in our squad for the Europa, just shows the difference in attitude. If we do find ourselves in the Europa next season I hope we take it more seriously.

If we can't handle CL and PL footy, like last season you say, then we may aswell give back any potential CL spot we may get as our club cannot handle extra fixtures....

But think of the money;)

Hopefully our new manager will get the squads fitness sorted out and use one or two more players without causing too much harm to the side.

Its so tough, like would you rather win the Europa League or get into the Champions League?? The sad state of football is that making the CL is a better achievement than FA Cup, Carling Cup or Europa League.

This season's Europa has been awesome - better than the CL by a mile up to the semi finals. Shalke, Bilbao, Atletico, Sporting, Ajax have all been brilliant to watch. And Man U and City coming down into it gave it some glitz and glamour and made it even more exciting.

Call me a old romantic but the game is about the glory right....? I would have loved to have done European always in Lisbon, Amsterdam, Schalke, Madrid, Bilbao, etc. it's not like we been rolling in trophies for the last 30 odd years eh....

Definite feel good factor about Bilbao. This is about the only football result that I've liked this week.

Agree with this, that's why I hit Agree.

VDV also shares your sentiments. He was gutted to miss out. At the end of the day it's European football and a chance to win a trophy.
