Indeedy-doody. I can recall someone once saying, 'Without Europe, Spurs are nothing'. I wonder who it could have been?

Enough of this, 'But the Europa Cup doesn't bring in much money' bollocks. We should concentrate on the Carling Cup because it brings in more money? But doesn't it still get us into the Europa Cup? Has someone just donated his brain to charity, or what?

Maybe we should just concentrate on finishing no higher then eighth and studiously avoid winning either domestic cup until we're ready to break into the top four.

Exactly, sooner or later, we'll have to face "fixture congestion", so why delay it? Give the squad experience in dealing with it, not delay it to next season

Whilst I agree on one level whats the point if we dont enter it with a real view of trying to win it?

^^ What's the point in entering the EPL next season, we definitely wont win it too...

will we be playing a second string in most of the games in the EPL?.........theres a difference between not being good enough to win it and not giving it your best shot - thought that may have been obvious

I don't really see the point in this thread to be honest, although it is a discussion point, of sorts I suppose.

But Harry recently said, that next season will be different. He is trying to get 7th place this year to go for Europe. Mainly because priorities will be different, he wants to win it, it will be his squad so he can choose the Europa squad players.

It is all good. Firstly we need at least 7 points, so it is all irrelevant until that moment!!

For me the answer is somewhere in the middle. I want us to go for it and if we get it, great. If we don't I wont be too bothered as HR has achieved all I wanted him to do this season by comfortably keeping us up.

To listen to some people on here we had no hope of winning it this season anyway. Oh no! Milan, Seville and Valencia! We haven't got a chance!

I think we have to take this season as a one-off. I don't believe we'll be in a position where Harry will be forced to make the decision he was this season, and we'll have a bit more strength in depth, particularly up front, where we won't be in the ridiculous situation of being more or less totally reliant on Bent. And maybe we should take a positive out of the fact that our very second-string line-up gave Shakhtar much more of a game than they got from Marseille at the Velodrome. If everyone ultimately went home disappointed, it wasn't at the level of performance. If we can't rest three or four first-choice players against some of the opposition we're likely to meet then we've got problems in any case.

It makes me laugh that people blame Aitch for resting players to get us out of the relegation fight Ramos left us in. And he has been vindicated, as we have done well in the league and some youngsters have got chances they otherwise may not have had. He never wrote off European football as a concept, he merely placed it below Premiership survival on list of priorities. Pretty simple stuff really, but people will use it to say he has no ambition or doesn't respect our traditions. Boring.

tottenham hotspur is european football and european football is tottenham hotspur.

one without the other always feels slightly hollow.

Def yes.
I just wish the prize for winning would be a CL place.
Particularly if you win and get that place a team who would have got in through the league has to play in the Europa. Then they'd have to take it seriously to try and get back into the Cl.

unfortunately for us four of the best teams in europe play i our lge

making the europa pretty much the only place for the rest of us 'mortals' to aim at

there's not another lge like it in europe

spain have 2 at most of the dominant european teams

do Italy even have any these days? let's say two to be fair - though I couldn't name them

germany - none -

their best - bayern (?) - ravaged by barca who then went all toothless when facing CFC - and that's not the first time against prem teams

I've got to honest, if we finish 8th/9th and miss out I won't be too disappointed.

In case you didn't know we only had two points from our first eight games, so to be where we are now is fine by me.

I think a year without Europe might be a benefit, but I don't know what bearing that would have on any targets Harry might have.

It would be a massive bonus if we got there, but I wouldn't be too disappointed if we didn't and there are benefits either way.

I have to say definitely yes.

a) We are big enough to make Europa (at the least !) I remember back when we had a good few years without the European nights and every Spurs fan was moaning and moaning about it big time (yours truly included.)

b) If we are to achieve our dream of making top four and C.L., the very fact that we have been competeing in Europe in the preceding seasons, will greatly serve us to have had the european experience in our ranks.

c) The Europa stage will benefit us by giving the young/fringe players playing opportunities, to gain the much needed experience.

d) I'm sure that some of our transfer targets, will choose us over other teams for this reason as well.

I look at our squad, and we should have the players to be able to rotate 4/5 players around and not weaken our team too much!

The earlier stages of the Europa League should be a doddle so play a 2nd team. Then when a few important away games come up, play the first team.

However, missing out on it would do wonders for our league campaign next year!

It's a tough one to call, we'll just have to wait and see if we qualify for it I guess!
