It’ll be nice to have some atmosphere around the Emirates though I expect they’ll be flasks of tea and soggy sarnies in abundance

It'll forever be remembered as the quietest protest in history.

Just said an announcement tonight from all remaining teams.

I assume Levy is hanging on until he gets the cheque for £400 million first.

Hahahah we're the last ones standing along with United and Liverpool. Even Arsenal got a cheeky tweet out before the collective one.

You are missing the point, this suggested super league was just an attempt to keep elite clubs rich, we arent elite but yet we happily were lead to join cause of our stadium.

I'm not convinced that's the reason - it was partially about money, but the '6' in the PL is an indication that it was an attempt to get enough influential clubs on board to give a chance to pose a threat to the UEFA monopolisation. No club would support it unless they were guaranteed to be a part of it.

I think all clubs would have their own reasons for it, but I support the overall cause of preventing UEFA from parasitically controlling/monopolising the structure and organisation of the elite competitions. Much like Brexit, there are good reasons on both sides that are lost in the fact that there are equally poor reasons on both sides, and yet no options are the right ones. European Club Football is going to be a shitshow regardless, though. The only ultimate difference is where the money ends up - UEFA and their unscrupulous morals, or clubs.

The hypocrisy that football won by disarming this is just ludicrous. The clubs leaving today are nothing short of blood money clubs reconciling with UEFA a corrupt organisation who bleeds the very clubs that are trying to break away dry. Why shouldn’t the clubs get more revenue, tickets, broadcasting instead of long the pockets of UEFA.

I think the idea of this league is flawed on the basis that you should have to qualify to play as that would be fair but other than that I cannot see why it’s such an immoral stance to take. At the end of the day though the new CL layout qualifies clubs without them needing to play anyway.

if we are really looking at morality here, the Qatar World Cup, the bribing allegations, the cash cow structure and the huge support/ witch-hunt of sky etc that UEFA have created tell me that they are just as hypocritical if not worse than the ESL.

This is the sort of sanctimonious horseshit we hear too often from the 'left' in politics which is why we (the left) are so ineffective.

It's a good thing that this is falling asunder and we don't have to solve every other problem in the football world and throw our hands in the air. Your argument is ludicrous - that it doesn't matter and it's all the same anyway is clearly not the case. It's been a exhilarating 48hours for footy fans who have voiced in near unison that this was wrong and threatened the game. And the arsehole 12 clubs overplayed their hand massively with the plan to proceed with a closed shop and deserve sanctions. Hosting the World Cup in Qatar was a corrupt process and immoral decision, but it's not a closed shop, and it's irrelevant to this particular power grab.

And the idea that there is hypocrisy in stopping this while the world cup would go ahead is a pretty dumb take.

First of all, a thought on one of the many, many things to come from this. The ESL has demonstrated that the financial markets believe broadcast rights for the biggest games are woefully undervalued by the traditional model. This will put some pressure on UEFA, the PL and other leagues to at least consider experimenting with a Netflix-style model (cheaper prices, more subscribers, direct global distribution).

Reports: Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United pulling out of the Super League
It is being very widely reported that Arsenal are about to release a statement announcing their withdrawal from the Super League project, with Liverpool not far behind. Meanwhile the chief Manchester United reporter on the Manchester Evening News has tweeted that United are also out.

2 years in the making and still they didn’t fully understand the amount of backlash this would cause. Completely out of touch with reality. Resigning would be the honourable thing for the 6 chairman to do but I can’t see it. All they had to do was consult with the fans first and they would’ve realised this was a non starter.
