Man Utd, Man City and Spurs plan for Brighton's Ferguson

Manchester United and Tottenham have earmarked Brighton's Evan Ferguson as a strong candidate to lead their line in the long-term and have laid down groundwork to pursue him next summer.

The 18-year-old signed a new contract at the Amex in April, which runs until 2028 to continue his development on the south coast.
It allowed Brighton to both reward Ferguson for an outstanding breakthrough season in which he has directly contributed 10 goals, but also protect his value.

Sky Sports News
has been told United’s academy director Nick Cox recently labelled the teenager a “£50million-plus mistake” as the club failed to secure him on youth terms during a trial and would have to fork out a substantial fee in future.

Brighton believe if Ferguson continues his trajectory, he can turn into a £100m player, a view that has been echoed by at least two European sporting directors, one of which likened the variety in the Ireland international’s game to Harry Kane.

One Manchester City source claimed his name has been discussed should Erling Haaland depart the club.

If he continues to progress like this we won't be able to afford him next summer.

He will probably cost upwards of £90m+ unless there's a release clause in his new contract.

Thing is, the only way he's leaving Brighton is if he's offered the chance to start every week and offered a wage that is way higher than what they can offer him, otherwise why on earth would he want to go anywhere?

If I'm Ferguson, I'm staying put. They will quickly offer him an improved deal once clubs start sniffing around.

As far as Spurs go, I can absolutely see why we'd be interested but think we're kidding ourselves on this one.

With a new contract the plan is likely for him to stay at Brighton until he's 21-22 years old and then go for a reasonable fee (50?)
Absolutely the best for his development as well, at least don't come here and sit on the bench behind Kane.

Can only see this happening if Kane were to leave.

"laid down groundwork"

Fucking hell

Are we to believe they've had several tons of ballast delivered? Have they dug footings? Got a gang of labourers on standby? Levy popping over to Brighton with a shovel over his shoulder singing aye-ho, aye-ho or something? Actually, that one, unlike Tweedledum, has legs................

It's as bad as "bracing themselves for a bid" and the like. There was a time when a journalist would be slaughtered for something as fucking lazy as this, now they just don't know any better.

Obviously staying put this summer, as he should do.

Assuming Kane leaves next summer, I reckon we'd stand a reasonably good chance of getting him then, but only if we show promising signs under the new manager next season.

I didnt realise he recently signed contract till 2028
If so, we can forget him. There's no way, we are going to pay near 100m to get him...And thats what it will take by end of next season.

At this moment in time, he's at the very best place for his career and the money Brighton will ask for can rightly be exorbitant.

Definitely a prospect to keep tabs on though.

Anyone see match of the day yesterday? They asked if we should get him to replace Kane. This is how the media circus starts for a player.

Feel sorry for Brighton with everyone being linked with an exit, but they have a great squad and collective spirit.

Wait til sky start with that bone. I wonder at what point they'll realise moving players like Kane out of the country with the trophy talk is bad for the league.

Basically we do what we did with Philips. Advise his agent to demand a reasonable release clause (60-70m) in his next contract, or wait till he's got 1-2 years left and try and sign him then. He'll still be fairly young, and no one will pay what they want now, considering everything is just potential.

We have no chance. He will be way out of our self imposed price range, and he’ll have better offers. Fully 3xprct him to go to City when Haaland wants to to move to a genuinely big club and not a plastic one.

An ambitious club buys him now. Wanted us to get him since I first watched him in the league. He’s an incredible talent.
