He’s one I don’t think they’ll let go.
Everyone has a price and it's Brighton's business model to develop talent to sell for a profit.

He won't be cheap though, given what they sold Caicedo for and the lack of supply of elite strikers. That hat-trick probably added 20M to their valuation!

At the moment.

But if d Zerbi stays for a while and they get better and end up pushing for CL places they might have a change in process. It isn’t possible to keep unearthing these gems as other clubs get wise to it and start to look at the same markets. Eg. Even we have started to look at South America like they have been doing for the last couple of years.

It's really interesting because they seem to be in a similar(ish) position to us between the Carrick-Bale years. They can play well and mix it with the big boys, but they can't hang onto their star players. Obviously their scouting etc. is light years ahead of ours during that period, but they will probably be looking at the same sort of decisions.

Do they stick with that model and try to fight for European places each season? Or do they look to transform the club to be more than a stepping stone? Will they consider turning their 30k stadium into a state-of-the-art 60k multi-event stadium? :cautious:

There was an article that somebody shared not too long ago talking about how data-driven scouting is great, but until one of these smaller data-driven clubs actually breaks into the CL or starts winning trophies, it's just going to be a tool rather than a paradigm shift. And as good as Brighton are, it's hard to see them truly "break through" in this country because there are so many giants already.

If Ferguson is as good as he is already looking, how long will he be happy to stay at Brighton if they aren't threatening the medals? The sharks will be circling, no doubt.

Levy spoke about a club in France (but I immediately thought of Brighton) that couldn’t grow any bigger because they just didn’t have the fanbase. They’d hit a glass ceiling and not be able to go any further. There’s no point them building a 60k stadium because they won’t be able to fill it. They won’t be able to get huge commercial deals because these are already taken by the bigger clubs with world wide fanbases to appeal to. Again, he wasn’t talking about English clubs but I bet he was thinking about it. It was during that Oxbridge chat he gave earlier this year.

If they eventually do it won’t be for another couple of seasons at least.
Mitoma will be the next one to leave unless they can convince him to extend this year, and we should be throwing actual buckets of cash at him. Brilliant player who would suit us so well.

I think we underestimate Brighton’s potential at our peril.

The club, and the area as a whole, have vast potential. Any super-rich investor with an ounce of nous will be looking at them very seriously.

At the moment I'd say that Brighton are just doing what Leicester did, only better. Buy young potential, develop it, sell at a profit and reinvest in even more young potential. But as we saw with Leicester, a few bad signings, some players choosing to run their contracts down etc and the wheels can come off that model. Will young players still be happy to go there if they get a reputation for demanding unreasonable fees?

Mitoma is class indeed. Very curious to see where he ends up

Why would he come to us over Brighton? If he's going to move it will be to city or Liverpool. He would be a great Salah replacement.

Brighton and us both look to be on the up but we're both competing for top 4 and not the title just yet.

City have Haaland
United spent 70mill+ on Hojlund
Liverpool spent 80mill + on Nunez
Arsenal have Jesus

Chelsea and us are the one's who arguably should be interested in signing him. Unfortunately I don't see us affording him as Brighton would demand silly money for him whereas Chelsea spend money for fun.
He’s only 18. City have Haaland for how long? 4 more years?

He’ll be at Brighton for another couple of years at least and that’s a long time in football. If he carries on his current trajectory they’ll be a load of clubs bigger than us, here and abroad, that will be after him in a couple of years.

His contract is until 2028, i’d be amazed if he extends it so it’ll be a case of Brighton holding on for him for as long as they can but the sharks will be circling from next summer onwards especially if he tears it up this season.

What did fergie used to say when he was at Utd? He didn’t care how much the transfer fee was, because he knew (trusted) that the player was going to be good for 8/10years and help win them stuff.

Wish we would just pay the £120m or what ever they want, knowing he’ll be our striker for the next 8 years.

I suppose the gamble then is that he will kick on and progress, but surely it’ll be an educated gamble with scouting etc.

(All that is obviously based on him actually wanting to join us)

The gamble is that he does his ACL or MCL or Achilles or whatever and never looks the same player again. Or goes through a rough patch that affects him mentally and can’t quite get out of it.

He looks like he has absolutely everything needed to become a player at the highest level. In my experience only a fraction of 18 year olds who meet that description actually get to that level and stay there. For every Haaland there’s an Ansu Fati, a Dele Alli, an El Sharaawy, a Halilovic.

I'm not sure it's entirely up to them. He is contracted to 2026. Likely will be at BHA for this season so next summer he'll have two years left which is not long at all if he indicates he won't sign a longer term contract, because the big clubs will be deploying all their tapping up approaches. I hope we're amongst that pack.

We'll need to have had an incredible season this year and most likely champions league if we even stand a chance

Fergie also said Mourinho should pay whatever it took to get Dele Alli in

You might be right, but that money would also (likely) get us Osimhen. I know who is a more proven player

There really is. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a very good young player, who will, in all likelihood, go on to become an excellent player. But I somehow think people are getting a little carried away. Jude Bellingham, who's totally proven and tearing it up in Madrid went for less!

I also think that if he was the last piece in the puzzle, we might be able to justify that sort of fee. But...

...if we had £120m, I think we would be better off carefully selecting two players of 60m. If we were bought by Qatar and money wasn't an issue, great.

Excellent player, but he's being over valued, and for a team that has genuine squad depth issues as well, it'd be hard to justify.

I bet he is on peanuts (relatively speaking) now though and they are trying to get him to sign a new contract before then. But yeah that is a possibility. I suspect we have already missed the boat on him and he will be snapped up by someone before then. He's young though, anything could happen this season.
