Can't believe we'd be interested given our depth in midfield now. He's a bloody good player though, very good.

But we need a magician, someone doing their business further up the pitch. Someone who can dribble and beat a man, and who has the guile and intelligence to affect the quality of our approach play in the final third.

We need some genuine craft in and around the edge of the oppositions box. To get the best out of Soldado its imperative in my mind.

More money blasted at central midfield positions, even though he could play the advanced role of a three, would be a bit ridiculous now given our needs.

If Dembele wasn't here, yes...but its a no for me.

The thing is though, I think he would be more than capable of playing further forward. He is good with the ball at his feet and has the skill, that little burst of acceleration, and some strength to be able to beat a man, and he has good vision. When he came through as the Gago replacement at Boca, he was seen as having Gago's defensive abilities and ball retention, but with the added ability to score goals and create things.

I'll admit though, it still seems like a strange link in some ways, because he is unable to play out wide like some of the other attacking hybrids we've been linked with.

I am suddenly not understanding his position. Would somebody that watches him regularly mind telling me what his role has been?

I thought more of a holding mid, but seems that this isn't the case necessarily

thanks

Oh and he's not 30m. Soho was trying for him at 12m.

He can play every position in a midfield three. In champions league, he played as an CAM against PSG and Bayern this last campaign. The Southampton price was also before Soldado was sold. It's a new ball game now.

Yes he certainly has some offensive ability. For me though we need a pure creator - and that comes with having a specific skill set and mind set.

Although I have only seen him play a number of times. But that's my onion.

He's got some questionable character issues (jerked off on a webcam I think) and he tried to stop a moving car with his foot that ended up breaking either his foot or ankle.

Other than that, he's a creative force in midfield and plays a lot like Modric in the way he likes to keep the ball moving and has the ability to spot a pass quickly. He'd make sense in a midfield 3 with a goal scorer (Paulinho/Siggy) and a destroyer. That'd be a good blend of talents.

Wait a minute, jerking off on a webcam means you have a questionable character..? Oh, er, hang on... *moves to delete those files from his laptop*

He's had booze problems too. He's a Cloughie special and if you can solve the issues, they always pay for themselves many times over (y)
Unless Valencia will be looking for another £20m+ for him.

A player who I really rate and was banging the drum for us to sign him a year or two back, when he was apparently available for about £8m (but then he had his bizarre incident with a car...)

He'd offer something different to what we have right now, but I admit would be a pretty gratuitous purchase at this point though. Only way it would make sense is if we offloaded Sigurdsson and managed to get Carroll a PL or top end of Championship loan. That would then free up some space.

He is crazy but very creative and good defensively. Lot of Valencia fans call him world class. I don't think Valencia will sell because they got good money for Soldado. Southampton tried to sign him earlier this summer so maybe he was on the market. But I really doubt it.

Personally between Pastore and Banega, it is Banega all the way!.......With the Monsters DMs Spurs have now, Banega would fit the team perfectly as a number 10. He is no slouch and tackles well too.....a team player with lots of versatility, just what AVB likes. Banega as first choice for no.10 and Eriksen as second choice for no.10 (maybe get Eriksen at cut price in January TW if he still have not sign contract extension at Ajax.....interesting how this pans out).

Best about Banega to Spurs? He knows Soldado game inside out! COYS!!!

I personally would take Pastore any day. Banega is more suited for a CM, or even a deeper regista type functionality, imo.
We need an advanced central playmaker (who can also play on the flanks if necessary) with almost-magical dribbling skills, an eye for defense-splitting passes, and silky-smooth technique (much like Pastore), who can create from any attacking trident (or even quadrant) position.

Thanks for sharing your view. Appreciate much......But we have to agree to disagree on this. Can anyone share has Valencia any real good DMs the last 3 years? (Take Banega out of that equation). On occasions that Banega has been asked to play CAM, he functioned just as well. He has an eye for a pass and he moves very very well IMHO.

Pastore has a languid style, which im not sure if he can be effective in BPL. How is Pastore performance in French league now? Anyone able to share?

I posted a couple of things just recently in the Pastore thread, if you wanna take a look. And some other posters had some interesting things to say about him too (both pro and con).

Ok thanks! To be honest, i only watched 2-3 games that Pastore played after his move to PSG.....watch him more in Serie A.

No worries, brother.
Yes, his last season at Palermo was pretty good, and so was his first year at PSG (as far as productivity).
I just think that eventually all of the switching back and forth amongst various positions and tactical systems/formations had a negative impact on his game (specifically under Ancelotti).
Plus there were a couple of issues between them on the personal level too, where Carletto allegedly questioned Pastore's mental state (or stability thereof).
I tend to believe it was a matter of adjustment, confidence, and getting enough playing time (thereby resulting in stability).
I think he will be improve this year (if he's used exclusively as your conventional trequartista type).

It would be awesome if we got him, though not likely.
