No it isn't

Just because we want to win doesn't make it must win.

If that's the case, no game is a "must win".

Of course there are must win games, but it all depends on what is at stake. Just saying it's a must win game isn't enough. If people were saying, "It's a must win or we'll remain fourth x points behind Arsenal til next week" then I'd agree. But what people are implying is "It's must win if we want to finish in the top 4" and it just isn't.

But every point adds up over the course of the season. So if we were to draw against Everton tomorrow and then end the season 5th and two points behind Man City, then that Everton match could've been considered a "must win" game, no?

No.

Why would it come back to that match? Your first statement is right, every point over the season counts. For our final league position, each game carries equal significance, each is worth the same amount of points.

This game is not must win if we want to finish top 4, if it were then drawing or losing tomorrows game would mean we can no longer possibly finish in the top 4.

Just having a peek at one of the Everton forums.

Quite a few are not confident about the game tomorrow at all.

Then there is this guy, who really did make me laugh. Especially the second one.

ToxtethBlue
Steven Pienaar is a better player than both Lennon and Kranjar.

ToxtethBlue
The Spurs fans view Luka Modric as there best player and for me, other than the huge difference in price tag, there's isn't much difference between Pienaar and Luka.

Yeah, I get what you're saying.

But for me, Everton are playing poorly, have a bunch of injuries and we tend to fare quite well at Goodison Park. Therefore, for me, it's a must win game. It might not be a "must win or we won't finish 4th" but it's a "if we don't win here we may look back and regret it" in the same way I view the Stoke home match.

That, and I'm making the long journey to Liverpool tomorrow and I wanna see my team victorious, damnit. :p

Pienaar is a good player I think, completely different to Lennon, maybe Pienaar has better technique than him but I would say Lennon is 5x more effective.

I don't think Pienaar is on Modric's level at all.

So it's like every game, a game we hope to win. But, added on top, it's a game against a team that is there for the taking. Not a must win, but one we really want to, and should.

But "must win" makes it sound much more dramatic. :p

It is a must win game, nicdic. No one is implying that this is the case solely because of our ambitions to finish in the top4. Everyone is implying its must win because City, Villa, and Arsenal have all won, and hence, we must win too if we're serious about challenging for the 4th spot.

Evertonians in general seem quite clueless and arrogant these days. Used to be an alright bunch, but since finishing 5th the past 2 seasons they've become a little unbearable, really hope we win tomorrow, will make up for the 2 points dropped last week
