SJ is different class isnt he.

I have to admit I was one thinking Conte will explode/will walk after those Sky Italy comments, and Jordan gladly makes me and others look very immature and stupid.

Well this is what the media do. Build narratives, create sensationalist headlines & dont really care about the readers. The UK’s media will build rheir own. Its already starting with chief football journalists at out some reputable outlets calling on Conte to resign & the United heirarchy to hire him immediately. There’s an agenda. There was one under Poch & now one under Conte. They want to create even further unrest then there already is to suit that agenda.

It would seem a sizeable proportion of our fan base have an agenda too.
Not sure how sizeable it is. What I do know is those you are talking about seem to be shouting the same things over and over again and making it look like there are more than there actually are. I suppose the keep talksport in business though.

It's just impossible to do serious squad building work in January on a budget that's not unlimited. The summer will be the test for sure.

We won't be able to rebuild this squad in one window. It is nearly impossible. Hopefully we have a good go at it though but it won't all be done this year. Will take a few windows to get us anywhere near back up there. And by then will Newcastle have spent billions, will Man Utd got their shit together, will Klopp and Guardiola still be at their clubs. A lot can change between now and the end of 2 summer's time.

On the subject of signing young players. I do think this is the core of what we do as a club. We have to sign players before they explode and their value shoots up. However there's also no reason not to get a couple of experienced players too. There's a fair few out or running out their contracts now. This is essentially what we do, either sign someone with world class potential or sign someone who was world class at the back of their career. I think in the summer we need to get a few more experienced heads into the spine of the club. Then have younger players around them. I think centre back is the perfect example of that. We have Dier and Davies then the rest are young. A combination of for example a de Vrij and a Torres in the summer would greatly improve our defence (another kind of Dier and Romero combination of experience and youth)

I can understand the frustration of Conte and I would even say its similar to Kane. They want to succeed now, not build to success in 3-5 years. To do that you need players in their prime. The problem is that we don't have enough top players in their prime now. We really just have Kane and Son as our world class in their prime players. We previously had in prime Lloris, Walker, Vertonghen, Alderweireld and Dembele. We still had young Kane, Son, Alli, Eriksen. We just don't have the balance right yet. Bentancur has plenty of match experience but he's similar to how Eriksen was in that regard. Mid twenties with experience but not yet in their prime. He'll probably hit his prime in a couple of years.

This is where we are now. Are we back to building a squad of young players who can develop and all hit their prime at the same time. We did that already and still won nothing though. Not to say I didn't enjoy that spell, it was still my favourite time as a Spurs fan. However now we have the best stadium and I feel we should have a different approach. We need to cough up for some prime players in addition to those with potential. That's how you make use of Conte and get success here and now. When he leaves you'll have success to build on and still enough young players to develop under the next manager.

I agree, but I also don't agree at the same time. Then we didn't have a stadium that is going to produce £150 million of income. We do now, it is such a game changer. I can see why there is news he will be backed, we make so much money. But it is the amount that needs to be done that will be the tricky bit.

Jordan is brilliant... love him !
He's spot on. Like many times before... The voice of reason.

And nobody in the media is ever going to speak in favor of Tottenham... we know the clubs they support or have coorporations with.

I mean, and call me paranoid or completely delusional but Levy appointing Conte to appease the fans, Levy appointing Paratici as a patsy to hide behind. The Dias deal is just like the other deals we could of potentially had, Hazard, Willian and the messing about over Bruno, I can understand players wanting to go to other clubs but it seems to becoming a regular thing, if we have a target go in get it done and sealed instead of fannying around with your thumb up ur bum.

You're paranoid and completely delusional :sneaky:

Seriously though, we don't ONLY lose out on players, we have bought players at all stages of the transfer window, we have bought players will little fuss, bought some incredible quality as well as missing out on some of our targets - I know for a fact you have loved many players ENIC purchased the last 10-15 years.

Like it or not there is a hierarchy..... we arent losing out on our targets to teams below or on the same level as us, we are losing out to teams above us with more to offer right now. Hazard and Willian were quite a while ago now so I think it just proves that it is difficult for any club to compete for signatures with teams above them.

Either way, I think Conte is just reiterating what he has said before in a different way. There is still work to do, don't expect miracles in the middle of a rebuild before we have even had a chance to fully replace some of the squad.

Yes, it might well be the vocal minority and I don't want to mention names *cough Gards, but it's getting really bloody tiresome now and like clockwork after a defeat you know what's coming.

The half time booing doesn't help.

That's what I'm hoping too. When I say it's the core of what we do I think its the case at least up until now. Whether we will change that in the summer remains to be seen. I guess we haven't really had chance to take advantage of the stadium because covid hit soon after. We should be in position with full crowds again to sign more players for the here and now. We can still sign prospects too but I think we need a mix of both.

Probably not. But two or three players of a similar level to Romero could have a huge effect. Sometimes one new player can be a catalyst for others to grow with.

Back the team during the halves. Not a fan of the moan or sighs at every misplaced pass or mistake. But the paying fan has every right to voice their discontent at half time and full time in my opinion.

I would actually say that Bentancur fits into that category... he's probably even further in his development than Romero... Bentancur has played more games at the highest level and has won more... he is going to make us better from the start... but we need to continue .. if we can hit transfers of that calibre regardless of the transfer fee. Then we will be fine... what we don't need is more expensive misses like N'Dombele, Sanchez and so on.

There could be many quality players on a free this summer. I'm hoping Fabio can do some magic there... as well as buying players like Romero, Bentancur... maybe some Championship-talents on top.

I'm sure that Conte and Fabio are working closely to improve the squad. I have no doubt that they are committed. The media can F*** O**.

People are right, booing doesn't help, although I would like to know what ./ who is being booed? Is it the players for their performance is it Conte for his selection / formation or are the boos directed at Levy / ENIC?

A few away games might help - our away support is usually great, even when we get beat. It should mean our players feel slightly less pressure on the pitch.

Until we win some silverware, we'll continue to mocked by all and sundry and this is irrespective of manager
Even if we do win a cup it will never be enough. We would still be mocked by all and sundry. “It’s only a league cup or it’s only the FA Cup.
Times have changed where getting fourth place is the holy grail.

Levy won't back him - I bet Man Utd would back him - he should go to Man Utd - If he was at Man Utd, he would get the players he needs - If I was him I would go to Man Utd - Man Utd need a manager - He would be great at Man Utd - Blah, UTD, Blah, Blah, Blah

I agree. Once we get past saturday, and let’s not forget our record against them isn’t too bad compared to some teams, our run of fixtures isn’t quite that bad. I bet we look back after the Everton game and we are still in touch for fourth.

I don't think anyone minds straight shooting, but was this really the time to do an interview in Italy that would be picked at for clickbait when the whole club was on a low after three straight defeats and most likely a 4th incoming at the Etihad?

Honestly depends who you ask
