They spoke about this after the game. Consensus seemed to be that someone should have taken charge and pointed out the situation. This is one of those things that once the game has started, managers can't do much about, Conte can't be expected to know where the Chelsea players are going to stand. A bit of leadership or taking of responsibility wouldn't have gone amiss there. Hopefully, it'll be mentioned when they analyse it.

Looked like they all took up positions they'd worked on in training, but those were positions where there were no Chelsea players. No adjustment for the circumstances. Really bizarre to watch it play out and them score a simple goal (although it was a blinding strike).

The zone was behind most of them and it's pretty much impossible to attack it going backwards.
Well yeah, we clearly defended it terribly. There were some who could've attacked it but misjudged the flight of the ball and got dragged into the wrong zone, and others who could've attacked it but didn't move.

Here's a decent article on it

Take a look, the first three players are more or less out of the game if, as happened, the ball is an out swinging cross. It's a new system apparently, introduced by our set piece guru, so maybe the charitable opinion is that we'll get better at it :D

We don't really have a problem with this, do we? Personally I think the game has been far to sanitized over the last few years. I want to see the characters and the passion. I want to know these people being paid a fortune care as much as we do.
Me personally. No problem with it, would be very harsh by the ref to send him off for that.

However, I do have a problem with Tuchel then going into his press conference trying to point out the numerous errors and technicalities. When by that same logic he should’ve been off. Can’t have it both ways.

I always felt you need a mix of zonal marking and man marking. You get players in the most dangerous areas and then the other players mark a player. If a player marks a zone around the penalty spot and the corner is played to the edge of the box that player should get out to close it down. I also think the back post should be marked as one of the zones. on front of the near post is typically Kane, then 2 at the 6 yard box (one near one far side), 1 penalty spot and 1 far post. Others can then mark a player.

Totally - if you are going zonal, you need a couple of mopping up players

Is anyone else a bit baffled about the Spurs Chelsea 'beef?'
They feel like a club looking for a rival to hate after they won the Oligarch lottery and they ended up choosing us by process of elimination principally in the last year as we now have their former coach!
I remember the Battle of the Bridge and the CL stuff of course but otherwise i feel nothing about them aside from a bit of 'regret' given how bad our recent record against them is.

They’re a horrible fan base but our rivalry is with Arsenal.

Chelsea don’t really have any local rivals but they take a dislike to us for many politically incorrect reasons that have been raised far too many times.

I think Gandhi said it best

I thought this was an interesting thread on the tactical battle between Conte and Tuchel and specifically how Chelsea set up to nullify our ball progression. I think Conte did well to adjust a couple times. Also, despite hurting our ball progression for the first 60-ish minutes, I don't think Chelsea did all that much to disrupt our defense or threaten much for a team with 70% possession at times.

On a separate note, Conte needs to sort out the zonal marking. Koulibaly's goal was a frigging joke with most of our players on the near post and nobody covering the edge of the area at all.
you need to watch that tactical video posted on the previous page before you make this comment.

Thanks - that Jon Mackenzie guy posts some really good tactical stuff.

I think what disappointed me most about yesterday was that Chelsea have used this trick on us before and they managed to get away with it again. Maybe Conte hoped that we'd fare better with an improved 11, but that clearly wasn't enough. We should've seen this coming and come up with a way to deal with it in training.

This rule relates to post match media comments and social media posts that bring the game into disrepute. Suspect it's Tuchel's after match comments about the Ref, and Conte's IG post about wanting to have tripped Tuchel up, as I don't think he mentioned anything about the Ref.

I really don’t see what Conte did wrong. Tuchel is the one who wouldn’t let go of his hand the cretin.

I don't think that's what this FA charge is about. This breach of rule E3 is to do with after match media/social media that brings the game into disrepute.

Edit: Seems it could be the incident on the pitch. See @luRRka 's post a bit further down.
