Townsend certainly looks like a good alternative if we're short on left-wingers for the latter stages of the season. Could cause a few problems from the substitute bench. Mason and Caulker both looked good too. I thought Parrett, M'Puku and Obika were disappointing thought for the most part. I can see a few of them getting first team recognition next season.
Totally agree with that. M'Poku in particular I thought was poor. Another player I would like to highlight is Sam Cox, the LB. Diminutive little kid and started off very shaky, but was one of the few players who I thought played better in the second half than the first. Not sure if he'll ever make it though, he really could do with growing at least five inches taller and did seem a bit frail even though he had some bite to him in the tackle.

The better team won, there's no doubt about it. They were on top of us through most of the first half without creating the massive chances, sucker-punched us in the second half with that goal three mins in, and although we fought back fairly well and looked much better once Kasim came on for M'Poku they were better than us, it was just unfortunate that we capitualated after 2-1 because they didn't deserve 3.

Where we really suffered is easy to pinpoint - the midfield. For all the class of Bostock, Townsend and Parrett neither of them are real fighters, they needed a Palacios-type in the middle just as we did the first half of this season who would just run around and break up play. Kasim did a decent job when he came on, we looked far more balanced, but still the Arse were better. They seemed to want it more, and were first on the ball in nearly every 50/50 challenge.

Their number 11, Thomas I think it was, was an absolute beast physically, much taller and seemingly stronger than anyone else on the pitch, although apart from his goal he didn't do that much. Their number 4, no idea what his name was, played better in the holding/fighter midfield role than Denilson has done all year for the first team, although he was a bit of a dirty player.

Which brings me to the referee. Utterly disgraceful performance, let two-footed challenges (several by their number 4) that clearly made contact go, and then gave bookings for innocuous and sometimes even clean-looking tackles. The bad decisions nearly always went Arse's way, although we got a couple of horrendous decisions our way too. Mason in particular was repeatedly dragged down and fouled without getting anything. Let's hope he never refs in front of a bigger crowd or in a more important game, he clearly wasn't good enough.

Overall, the two late goals left a really bad impression on me right after the game, but thinking about it now that I've got home we didn't do too badly, but Arsenal were just better and fully deserved their win.

Although you could clearly see ability in both teams and compared to many youth sides ours would compare favourably I'm sure, for about 70 minutes it was a pretty disapointing team performance from our lads to be honest - certainly in an attacking sense - and you could just see clearly the Arsene Wenger coaching in their team. Their movement off the ball was so much better.

You could see that our young side did have ability and some very decent players, and up against anyone other than Arsenal they may have looked even better (I don't know) and at times they did move the ball quite well.

Was it just me it did Mason look like some kind of throwback to the skillfull players of the seventies/eighties.
Parret looked technically good, energetic, tenacious and tidy. Townsend looked lively.
I was really disapointed with Bostok who, while clearly having ability looked to work about half as much as any of his arsenal counterparts.

bit of a disappointment but we were up against a quality side. i guess the league is the true judge of them because that requires consistency and not one-ff performances. bostock didnt seem to play well under the spotlight but looked better when given more license to attack. parrett looked a lot sloppier than he has been for the first team.

townsend looks like a left footed lennon and i would love to see him given some minutes int he first team. could be a really good impact player but i guess we wont be seeing any of them till at least pre-season. caulker also looked really solid but you cant really judge on one performance.

.

I posted earlier

I also thought Ryan Mason showed he has a great football brain and super touch. He looks like he's been watching and learning from Luka Modric.

The downside is that he's quite frail, and built like Luka probably was when he was 17. Mason will take time to come through but he's got real talent.

The sense in which Mason looked like a player from a couple of decades ago is that top flight football back then wasn't so full of very strong, very fit, athletic players squeezing out the space.

However, a couple of times tonight Mason saw a through ball in a flash and had the technical ability to make the pass. That's priceless and gives him a real chance of making the grade, especially if he can get physically stronger.

Just back from the game. The best team won, as has been mentioned, but there was alot of positive things about our performance, and both sides played decent football.

The only two players who I personally think have a chance of making it in our first team are Bostock and Townsend. The former was always available for a pass and rarely lost the ball, although he didn't really get hold of the midfield you can tell there is more to come from him.

Townsend was a revelation for me, big, strong, skillful and incredible pace. He looked good on either wing and gave their right back a torrid time. If he gets his head down and works hard he could be really potent player.

Hard to judge from one game, but I can't see Parrett, Mason or some of the others making the breakthrough.

Just got back from the game I think we did ok but overall were no match for arsenal, I actually thought bostock had a good game although maybe tried to hard at times. Was really impressed with townsend, think he can aim to try and push for a place on the bench next season. Mason showed some nice touches but I think he needs to be given time to grow into his body, physically I think it will take him maybe 2-3 yrs to develop. Kasim looked good when he came on, always wanted the ball and had good movement. Parret was very disappointing for me and mpoku couldn't get in the game. Hopefully it was just a one-off bad performance from them.

Thought arsenal were very good, someone mentioned about seeing the wenger coaching in them and thiss is very true. It seems that all arsenal teams play in the same way, 1st team, reserve, youth probably even the women, anyway unfortunately they have a formula for them that works very well. There number 4 was disciplined in the holding role which is what we needed, was too easy to attack us thru the centre.

I can see why our team does well at youth level but arse had better team ethic, strength, and pace overall.

Anyway a good effort by our boys but a long way to go for them.
