He can't get in the Swiss team though, not sure what that means....if anything!

So many CB's being linked, Schar, Moreno, Lovren, Garay, O'Shea, Ogbona, Erazo, Savic.
Either there's a lot of rumour inventing going on at various newspaper sports desks or Poch has put together a long list of options.
Fair enough if it's the latter but where the fvck did O'Shea spring from? surely that has to be the results of an overactive imagination of some drunken tabloid sports hack trying to take the piss

It's his first major tournament so Hitzfeld is going with experience over youth. Not sure how Djourou has been recently but if it's anything like his Arsenal days then Schar is already head and shoulders ahead of him.

Jackson Martinez and Fredy Guarin can't get in the Colombia side, it means diddly squat.

Thats a good point, slightly off-topic here but how the hell has Jackson Martinez or Adrian Ramos not played!? The latter has just signed for Dortmund! Man they have good squad!

Schar is coming off an injury. That's why he didn't start game one. I suspect he will start today.

It's my belief we a) view CB as top priority considering what we have and Poch's demands at the position and b) CB's are probably the most difficult position to buy in modern Europe. It would seem to me we may be trying to take advantage of the WC to talk up a bunch of agents for these players.

There's definitely a real shortage of quality defenders in general right now. Schär is one of those players who could really turn spectacular.

I have a feeling we are after two, I have a feeling Verts will be gone

The way he played and behaved last season I'm not sure if I would be too opposed to it. Would be shame though since he's a world class defender on his day.

There's a few good CB's around, I think Howedes,Tasci and Papadopoulos are all good players, but the last two have missed a lot of playing time with injuries so I can see why they haven't been linked

Yeah I agree, I really wanted us to sign him before we were ever linked but even then he had a bit of an attitude, sometimes lost focus against teams that he maybe thought were a bit beneath him. I figured that might change stepping up to PL level, but it hasn't
I do think he can be a great CB but there does seem a bit of a character glich about Verts, world class CB's keep their focus and drive no matter the opposition, he really needs to address that

This idea crept into my head a few days ago after the Moreno links began accumulating. People have been discussing how we're going to fit Moreno in given he's a lefty, we've allegedly looked at Agbonna who's a lefty, and apparently our top choice is Lovren who's played quite a bit in the LCB spot.

While none of the above may be entirely true (I do think we're serious about Lovren and Moreno, and have probably contacted the agent of Ogbonna), you'll note the common theme there. I too have come to believe that Vertonghen may be one of the two off this summer instead of Dawson and Kaboul.

Because the manager prefers to play a skilful forward like Teo Gutierrez in the lone forward role than a tall strong guy like Jackson or Ramos. And it's working for them so far.

With the figures being quoted for Moreno and Schar we could sign them both for the amount required to sign Garay or Lovren.

That is likely true. Bringing in Moreno, due to his experience under Poch, would make me feel better about foregoing Lovren specifically. I do very much like the vocal aspect to him though. I feel it's very important for a CB in the modern game, and especially within Poch's sytem with a stretched and high back line with two CM's in between and having the last line of sight, that a CB be well-versed in communication with those immediately surrounding players.

Good CB, but not what we need in my opinion.

We already have Chiriches and Verts thats fairly good with the ball, but with Kaboul always out we do lack some speed at our CB position and Schar dont give us that.

We should aim for a fast CB to pair with our already good ballplaying CB's.
