You'd need a Mourinho style sense of self worth to take that job, wouldn't you. There is only one way to go. If you don't win, you're not as good as the last man. That's some pressure.
Yep. The ego has landed though. TBF, he's half decent himself. I think it's between him and Moyes. Only big name they'd get who would try and take on the impossible, and might genuinely achieve it. I could see him using their resources, whitout having to deal with a nutcase chirman or politics and divas, moulding a yanited squad capable of winning the CL again.

If he forgets himself for a moment though and turns it down, Moyes would jump at the chance, imo, even if the cost of failure would mean a swift return to the "relative" mediocrity of having to manage a club with tight finances. What more can he do with Everton. Perofmring miracles each season much be a little old at this point.

He is a great manager but he was also giving a huge amount of time and financial backing to achieve what he has. I'm not sure we would or could have given him that.

I recall he took an unfashionable Aberdeen side and won a european trophy, I think he may have achieved greater things at spurs that any of the managers we have had in the last 25 years

SAF longevity is the most remarkable thing. not his trophy haul. That was a given

Clubs dominate. not managers.

Bayern. Real. Barca. Utd. One thing in common, biggest fish in their pond.
True, and why I mentioned the money men at Yanited. The fact that have been at time unrivalled in terms of wealth and are still one of the big 4 easily, means he had the tools to go out and wins trophies virtually every season.

However, it must be said, even if he did come within one result of the elbow himself, Yanited were a big club living on past glories and had suffered a relegation to boot in the meantime when he took over. Obviously they had cache, in English football especially. Pool were still winning regular titles and were only a couple of seasons removed from their 4th EC/CL, however. Yanited were firmly mid-table. Pool were the established giant and by some distance. Under Baconface though, Yanited have become the unqeustioned domestic giant and a European power to boot.

Like I said he is a great manager. It took him 6 years to win the title at Utd despite them constantly being the biggest spenders and 4 years to bring home their first trophy.

He is good enough manager to achieve anywhere but I wonder how much time we would have given him. He today he was backed very strongly by Bobby Charlton in his early years. Not sure we have such a history of supporting the man in charge.

We had 18 managers during our first 100+ yrs of existence. Not all that bad really. Certainly not constantly chopping and changing. That all changed in 91. Since then we've had 12 changes in 22 yrs. It all went Pete Tong so quickly.

Best manager of my lifetime by a long way, possibly the best club manager there has ever been. I'm looking forward to see how this pans out. Surely the likes of Rio, Scoles and Giggs will be considering their futures also. The extra 10-15% Fergie got out of his teams will be gone.

If it took him 6 years to deliver a title and 4 years at the biggest spending club in the country then he might not have done the same at us. I think Utd are one of the very few clubs who would do that.

I'm not taking a shot at us but Ferguson was a perfect fit at Utd, he might not have been at us.

I basically agree with you, didn't mean to nitpick your posts or antyhing. *stalker mode*:ninja:

The timing might have been doable had he joined us in the mid-80's instead but the stand remodel/rebuild and subsequent debts we fell into which very nealy brought the entire club down, might very well have happened anyway. Our problems all stemmed in the boardroom really. Still, we can't complain, we got our little bail-out in the form of Lord Sir Suger who righted the ship at least. Bit silly of me to pine after missed opportunities when THFC were actually closer to going out of existence altogether.

Without doubt the greatest club manager of all time, glad to see the back of him finally.

Not sure about Moyes. Just looks like a mid tier manager. Man Utd is too much of a step up from Everton in terms of players, coaches, money and how bigger clubs operate. he needs to go up a step further imo before he takes on the biggest role in world football.

And this is why you all should be laying Moyes on Betfair
