100% agree on both points. The fact he hasn't shown much for Spurs makes me think we don't need to replace him with much but we need to replace him if we go.

One of my continual gripes has been the latter point though - we knew what he was good at when we signed him, yet we don't play to his strengths. Newport was case and point - spent the first half under pressure, trying to play up from the back against a hard pressing team on a poor pitch - why not play it long to FL and play off him for 15-20mins, take the sting out of their game and relieve the pressure? Nope, we kept doing the same.

When we've brought him into games, we haven't put more balls in the box, or transitioned play quicker to him (and then off him) so why put him on??

If we don't want to change styles then we need an option who works like Kane. Maybe not as well but with the same style.

Agreed. So bloody frustrating. He doesn't have the pace nor ability to take on a player and smash one from outside the box like Kane.

But he does bring a new dimension to our attack that we fail to utilise every single time he plays.

For those saying we won't replace Llorente, here is a theory.

Son replaces Llorente as our back up striker.

Then Lucas (moura) replaces Son as our right side pace off the bench.

So in essence Lucas replaces Llorente.

Just a theory.

It's what a lot of people have been saying for hours yet some are adamant we need a pure striker to waste away on the bench, which I don't agree on at all.

Makes sense from a Levy perspective - if he can balance the books on Moura he'd consider that a fantastic window. But from a fan's view it seems like we've tweaked the squad rather than strengthened it.

It is exremely tough for people (including me) to comprehend that we replace a striker (Llorente) with a winger (Lucas).

However it is a possible theory.

Son is no replacement for Lorente, have you not seen how easily Son gets bullied off the ball, I would be happy with Jay Rodriguez to tide us over.

We don't need a replacement if we sell Llorente imo. He does nothing. Give his spot to Sterling, at least he has potential and is mobile. Having Llorente up top, whenever he has played for us, has been like having a wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man on the pitch. I'm sure he'll do well elsewhere, but if we can make our money back we should.

would be ironic if we sign a fast paced winger who can cross a ball, and get rid of a striker whose only real strength is from a winger crossing a ball

Son is our striker backup to Kane if Llorente goes.

FWIW i think Llorente is fine, but we don't ever play the sort of football that utilises a target man.

But why would we just randomly sell him to chelsea for seemingly no benefit to us what so ever?

As much as i agree, i am sure we will not sell Llorente without an incoming striker.

How is it no benefit? In that case surely selling any player is no benefit? We get something in return we're obviously ok with. In this case a decent fee and a player off the wage bill who does nothing for us.

We should sign someone who actually does something then, ‘Spurrific’.

Son is much better than Llorente even out of position upfront. Llorente may appear strong but in reality he doesn’t show it. We might as well put a cardboard cut out on the pitch.

Quick thought. Think I’ve read a lot of the Moura money is up front, which maybe doesn’t make it such a great deal. How much do we still owe Swansea? Bet it’s the majority. Just maybe we need the money and letting him go back helps us both. Or do Swans have anyone we want? Mawson?

I wouldn't be so sure.

Who's to say Sterling can't be that guy? We've failed nearly every time we've signed a striker (since Defoe, probably - or Dempsey if you count him as a striker) - we might as well stick to bringing them through our youth.

Have you seen how easily Llorente fails to score?
Of course I have, he has been terrible, but have you seen how easily football players get injured ? Our club should be fit to have at least two senior strikers in the squad.

Son vs. Llorente as lone forward is basically a "tallest midget" competition at this point. Son is the better option, but he really wasn't good in that role last year. Would prefer a bonafide forward coming in if we sell Llorente. JayRod on loan would make some sense, even if he may be harboring hopes of a WC spot if he keeps playing well for WBA.
