I wonder which tier of the men’s football league would win the World Cup. Judging be the quality on display tonight it’s hard to imagine the 8th or 9th tier breaking a sweat.

I watched the women’s football purely for the comedy effect as outside of the USA and a hard working Dutch side they’re all crap.
Are you kidding me?

Yes not all of the teams are on that level, but the gulf in class between the USA and the majority is because they are funded better and have been leading the way for a long time.

England have got a lot better, the game against Norway was very good. I feel that they just lacked composure tonight.

But to say it’s a comedy is extremely disingenuous

I've just watched my 3rd WC women's game, and I haven't seen any women's football before this WC and tbh, the states are the first team where I have seen a fair amount of technical ability, like quite some way ahead of the Europeans, from what I have seen. I thought England's attacking was okay tbh, but generally, I agree the rest are crap, except the USA. Why is it they are so good? Is there a lot of money in the women's game stateside?

Title IX. The same reason the US is so good at most women's sports.

No more than I anticipated.

Never watched women’s football before. Was impressed with most of what I seen in this World Cup apart from the same cheating and gamesmanship that the rest of the world seems soooo much better than, than us

You can say marginally offside goal, you can say missed penalty.

Regardless of those two things, an England team shat the bed in a semi final. Again.

Why do so many of our fans have this attitude? Losing a match does not mean you bottled it. Sometimes - and today is definitely one such case - the opposition is simply better. The Americans were playing soccer while the English FA deliberately killed it because it was "unladylike", and were winning World Cups while we didn't give one iota about it. It's only really the last six or seven years there's been any concerted effort to develop the game in England, and this is the first time there's really been mass public interest in it. Winning the SheBelieves cup and playing a very close game against the US is much better than any reasonable expectation of the team at this stage. To expect that we can just show up, take an interest for the first time and stroll towards being world champions is ridiculously arrogant.

despite the sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach, the positive is that at least it wasnt germany. But luckily for us in the match that noone cares about on saturday we'll end up playing germany probably... salt in the wound. maybe not i forgot its sweden v netherlands. So we'll play sweden. Might watch that just for an england win.

I've watched a fair bit of footie at that level (Clapton FC) and I can't see it at all. I think the US would compete with a Conference or League Two team personally.

I'm going to sound harsh but I don't think taking a pen is brave. These are professional footballers, it's literally their job. Brave is playing on while being racially abused, not taking a set piece.

USA were better, but England played a very poor match far below the bar they set in the Norway game.

Oh come on the standard is very poor apart from the likes of Bronze and White's finishing.
Naivety all over the pitch
Goalkeepers awful

Got sucked into watching given it's been prime time BBC but I'll not be rushing off to watch a live game or watch WPL highlights on BBC

The USA approach comes across and/or is to treat the women’s game on a professional level with a lot of money behind them. English women’s football still lacks investment and the players are semi pro’s at best.

The best teams make the opposition look bad. The US are completely unparalled in their pressing and athleticism (if anything Holland seem to be trying to give them somewhat of a run for their money), they press and harry, it's not surprising that under that level of pressure we're not used to passes go arwy and the ball is lost. They're a completely different level to anybody else in the women's game.
