4th is a lot better than winning a cup. it gets us into CL and gets us a load of cash, and lots of guarenteed cash for the future (TV, tickets, merchandise, prize money).

the cups are good, but for me they are really for glory and competition with other english teams! so if we win cups like the Carling Cup, we can take the piss out of the other teams. especially the chavs!!!

Trophies, without doubt. Of course it would be fantastic to finish 4th and to play in the Champions' League, but nothing beats that 'cup run to final' experience. Trophies can be looked back on for decades to come, in ten years time do you think Newcastle fans' will be reminiscing that they played in the CL for a few seasons, and achieved nothing!?

Trophies, trophies, trophies. Always the trophies. I'd love us to be in the Champions League, but only so that we could win it. I want to win competitions rather than just qualify for them.

I wouldn't trade Sunday for all the fourth-placed finishes in the world.

I agree completely, while I'd love the idea of playing Champions League football what i want as a fan is seeing my club win trophies not aim to finish in the top four

It's easy to say the cup because this season went wrong from all our perspectives that this was the year we were going to break into the top four.
But if at this moment we were sitting in third place and hadn't got to the CCF nobody would be complaining would they?
But I had a great day on Sunday, and my Chelsea supporting husband is still in a major sulk (he was at Wembley in 67 as well)!
I hope this win will be the start and kick us on to better things!

Its always been the cups for me, Id rather have that feeling of an actual cup final rather than the proverbial (is that how its spelt or even used?!) "cup final" where you need to win a certain game to get champions league football.
