Just stopped laughing and goading Gooners (I’m sure I’m not alone!) and have begun taking in some of what we saw on Tuesday. Thought I’d throw out some of my thoughts and see what people think. Five positives to every negative I thought.
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>
Defence: <o:p></o:p>
<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" /><st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Dawson</st1:City></st1:place> is still awesome when he’s with the King. Can we get him to mature and lead the team when needed? I have no doubt he is capable but can the new management team draw it out of him? We need to be able to rely on him partnering Kaboul at times surely.
<o:p></o:p>
Attacking Midfield:<o:p></o:p>
So now we know how good JJ can be, the question is how often can he manage it? If he can play like that over 90% of games then he can be one of the best in the country. Consistency is the key.
<o:p></o:p>
Holding midfielder:<o:p></o:p>
Did Tainio show us that you don’t need a great player (I like Tainio but he isn’t great) in this position, just someone to be disciplined and aggressive? I’d like tHudd to take on the role (especially having seen his 1st half performance against <st1:place w:st="on">Sunderland</st1:place>). At present he lacks the aggression needed (although I was pleased to see him hammer the nutter Adebayeeugh at one point) but surely that can be knocked into him. If so, his size and passing range would make him an unbelievable asset.
<o:p></o:p>
Left Wing/mid:<o:p></o:p>
Strengthen, sure but Steed has ensured that this is no longer the problem it was. A Lennonesque player would offer some variety, although Steed and Lennon can no doubt switch. And the boy Bale is still to come back. And he looked a bit tasty before he got injured.
<o:p></o:p>
Manager:<o:p></o:p>
Tactically spot on. Attitude spot on. Decisions spot on. Instilling winning mentality in his team spot on. I think this boy might be a bit good.
<o:p></o:p>
NEGATIVE:<o:p></o:p>
Topping that performance. We’re gonna have to win something. There really is no other way.
<o:p></o:p>
COYS!
