People are looking at the numbers and not understanding the model.

There will be some anomalies but CIES figures are far more legitimate than the dumb as fuck journalists figures that are plucked from thin air

The fact that it's a model, an algorithm, is precisely *why* it's not particularly useful. They've valued Bernardo Silva at €80m when he's just gone for half that. Griezmann is valued at €150m when his release clause is miles below that. This is before you even get into the debatable ones (Aubameyan barely half the value of Kane?).

These things are fine for getting a very, very basic idea of what a player's value might be with all things being equal, but everything isn't equal and a player's value can change in an instant; Costa telling the world that Conte wants him gone dropped his value by eight figures in the two minutes it took him to relay that news to a journalist, plenty of players have release fees that make their 'market value' irrelevant, and there are any number of other variables that make these things a waste of time. If this particular study didn't reflect as well as it does on Tottenham players, everyone would be dismissing it out of hand.

Presumably it's based on the fact that Davies has played more premier league games total (I think) and also more at international level.

Still not sure that fully explains the gap though.

Yep, i guess that's a big factor in it...still quite odd though!

So people rating my post (questioning if Dier is worth £85m) as spam actually think Dier is worth even half that amount? He's a good player, but versatile defenders don't fetch £85m. This valuation - along with others - is simply ridiculous, and means the site loses all credibility.

Really ? I don't think I've read any estimates in the media as utterly wrong as a lot of that CIES table.

Dier 85m ?
