Seem to be finding a lot of Brazilian footballers for this month and the only footballer of any real status that I've found so far for today is Giovanni Silva De Oliveira, born in 1972.

SCer Langers shares his birthday today with ex-Spur, Micky Hazard, who is 48.

Man U team mates share a birthday - Cristiano Ronaldo is 23 and Carlos Tevez is 24.

So far I've only found the Brazilian, Edino Nazareth Filho who was born in 1955 - there may be more and I'll look further for you.

Cliff Jones is 73 today.

He is still trim and fit with a huge, loving family around him. I feel privileged to call Cliff and Joan good friends, having known them for nearly 50 years and I am still very much in touch with them.

I babysat for them in my teens and now there are grandchildren and great-grandchildren galore, a real dynasty.

Sadly their daughter Debbie, who was my favourite, died just a few years ago aged only 47 and never saw her own daughter Emma's two little ones and their daughter Kim has been ill but is now slowly recovering thank goodness. The eldest, Steve, who had a brief playing career with Southend will be 50 next month and 25 of the family are going off to Las Vegas to celebrate.

Cliff always remembers waking up on his birthday in 1958 to hear about the Munich air crash tragedy, not a happy birthday.

His best friend in the Double side was John White, still much remembered and missed. (I posted my memories of that awful day in the John White thread for those who missed it).

How the years have flown! After training one day in the school holidays, Cliff invited himself round to our home, which was just around the corner to the ground, for a cup of tea. Hell of an event for a 12 year old girl to brag about! We've been friends ever since then and I loved looking after their kids, often staying with Joan in the summer holidays when Cliff was on tour with the team. I used to go home with a Welsh accent which really annoyed my mum! Mel Hopkins and Bobby Smith, for whom I also babysat, lived in the same road In Palmers Green.

I often stayed overnight to babysit and if it was a school day next day, my school friends would stare with dropped jaws as I was dropped off to school by one footballer or another in the morning!

And now, all these years later, I live just 20 miles from where Cliff and Joan were born in Swansea and they live in Hertfordshire, just a few miles from Tottenham where I was born.

Happy Birthday Cliff - and may there be many more.

When I told the old man Hristov Stoitchkov is 42 today, he said "That's easy for you to say!" His nickname "Itso" is a bit easier.

French international Ousmane Dabo is 31.

It's also A & C 's birthday.

Cyrille Regis is 50 today.

He as born in French Guyana and with his first major club, West Brom, was known as one of the "Three Degrees" (named after the girl group) being one of three black players in the team, still somewhat unusual in the 70s. He gained 5 England caps.

He became a Christian after being in a car crash in 1989 with one of the other black players in the team, Laurie Cunningham, who died in the accident. They had survived a similar car crash together only two years before.

Cyrille is now an accredited sports agent and among those he has represented are his nephew, footballer Jason Roberts, and his cousin, sprinter John Regis.


Gordon Strachan is 51 today.

Son of Johan, Jordi Cruyff, is 34 today.

The legendary (not a term I used lightly) late Danny Blanchflower was born on this day in 1926. I was privileged to see him play throughout his career and he was the epitome of what an ideal captain should be.

Moroccan international (115 caps), ex-Spur and solid defender, Noureddine Naybet, is 38 today.

Kevin Campbell of West Brom was born in 1970, as was Bryan Roy, World Cup 1994 Dutch international.

Luisao (Anderson Luis da Silva), Benfica and Brazilian international defender, is 27 today. At 6'4", he is virtually unbeatable in the air.

Also, Liam Brady, former Irish international and player with a much-despised team that plays not too far from Spurs in North London, is 52 today.

I was away over Christmas and completely missed the sad news that Tommy Harmer had died. I was reminiscing about him with my dad just the other day.

Derek Possee, who began his career as an apprentice/youth team player at Spurs back in the early 1960s, is 61 today.

I remember him well, he was one of the youngsters we knocked about with in our teens. He made his debut in the first team aged 17 - and scored. He played alongside the late Keith Weller at Millwall and had spells with Crystal Palace and Leyton Orient. Last heard of him as Provincial Head Coach in British Columbia, Canada where he's responsible for the development and implementation of football programmes.


Also, Kevin Keegan is 57 today.

Milenko Acimovic is 31 today and has retired from the game. A useful Slovenian international midfielder, he was with Spurs 2002-4 but only made 17 appearances, spending more time on the bench than on the pitch. When he left Spurs he had a more successful career with Lille.

PSV Eindhoven's Brazilian international keeper, Heurelho da Silva Gomez, is 28 today.

Midfielder Stephane Dalmat is 29 today. He had a brief spell with us on loan in the 03-04 season and put in 22 appearances but was injury stricken for most of time. He was popular with supporters but not particularly so with David Pleat.

Former Spur and Portuguese winger Jose Dominguez is 34 today. With 45 appearances, scoring 4 goals, between 1997 and 2000 he was renowned for his acrobatic celebratory somersaults!

Thimothee Atouba, Cameroon international who is 26 today, was with Spurs for the 04-05 season where he first played on the left wing, then moved to left back and then was seen as surplus to requirements and joined Hamburg.

He is probably best remembered in Germany for giving the finger to his own team's supporters who were jeering at him during a game when he wasn't playing too well. He asked to be substituted and his request was granted and he gave the finger to the crowd again as he left the pitch. He was duly red carded!


Goran Bunjovcevic is 35 today. After an injury prone start with Spurs in 2001, he went on to become a useful central defender. However, under Martin Jol's regime, he was out of favour and left us in 2006 for a brief spell in Holland.
