He cleary has got talent. I like to look of him. I think once he gets used to the prem he will become good. All he needs is confidence. He looked a bit slow getting into the game on sunday, but very good goal i must say!!

Plus he also knows how to wear his socks properly!!!

Didn't Judas score on his debut?

Yes, I'd forgotten that, too. Berba scored on his home debut, but it was his second start. Alamo, I'd completely forgotten Jeff Minton ever existed, let alone that he'd scored. He only played about three games, didn't he?

*Edit: Jeff Minton it was. He played one more league game for us and then went to Brighton. Good spot, Alamo.

Never would have know if I hadn't been there! God that was a frustrating game. Comfortably winning 3-0 at half time and it ends in a draw.

Not only that but all the home support stayed around at the end to wish Gary Lineker farewell for all his years of service only for him to jog out of the tunnel, give one quick wave, and then disappear off back inside. :)

Delighted he scored and bent as well, they both really needed the confidence boost, and both were excellent goals. We will need both these guys tomorrow, hopefully gilberto starting and bent to come on if needed.

Really liking the guy. His attitude since joining us has been tops, before and after his mistake against PSV. Really hope he works hard to stay amongst the frame once Bale is back. He looked so much more comfortable in left-mid, so maybe it's a case of problem solved for the old left-mid crisis.

And it wasn't a fluke: 13 goals in 86 for Hertha, 9 in 54 for Gremio etc, and I'm sure he was often playing in defence.

His lack of pace isn't ideal, but players like Pires were hardly greyhounds, and adapted their game to the pace of the EPL. Gilberto has a sweet left foot, and apart from Bale, there aren't many of those around at the Lane...

hes no way short of pace, he is actually very fast maybe not lennon but very quick at least. Once he gets a few more games he will be fully up to speed, he has only played 2 games in the last 3 months well actually 2 substitute appearances.

He is also my new favourite player :)

Yup. We decided later in the thread that it was impossible to make a judgement on his pace (or any lack of) until he was completely over his calf injury and match fit. So, it's good to hear that he was much faster in Germany than he's been for us so far...

Next season will be interesting if Bale and Gilberto play on the left. That'll be total football, dutch styleeee. (Or Welsh / Brazilian).

Jeffrey Bernard Minton. Now there's a man who deserves a spot in our 'Legends of the Lane' feature.

Much though I hate to name-drop (yeah, right) my old man did the deal to take him (and Junior McDougald) to the Albion. Both were pretty decent at that level, but the funny thing about Jeffrey was that his missus looked identical to him. It was spooky. Whats worse he was short, stocky, had greasy hair and an awful orange hue. A most unfortunate looking pair of creatures.

Jeff Minton is still slightly orange-hued. I've just checked this on the Canvey Island and Chelmsford City websites.

Now if Gordon Durie scored on his debut that makes ten, and it's odd that the first of those was only in 1961-62. You'd have thought that in the preceding 60-odd years a couple of others at least would have managed it. Who's got a copy of the Opus?
