Against the top 4 this season:

bentley - 0 goals and 0 assists in 7 starts

lennon - 1 goal and 3 assists in 8 starts

(the above stats cover open play; bentley has 1 assist from a set-piece against Ar5ena1 in the CC)

I suggest we look elsewhere. We can do better than Bentley.Especially for the reported £15 million asking price.

Lennon is a great player. I've ignored most of the debates on here regarding him being shite etc as I find them so bloody fickle. He has a few bad games and everyone slaughters him. Has a few good games and he's the greatest player in the world and Inter Milan want him but they can't have him...blah blah blah

It's crazy talk....Lennon is awesome and can open up defence's like nobody else in our team can!!! Yes of late his final ball has been bobbins but he'll come good. The right side of our first team is very good with Hutton and Lennon and few are better for me so

That's like arguing ...

For people that want David James to replace Paul Robinson

James - longest kick: 61 yards

Robinson - longest kick: 75 yards

Can Bentley take us to the next level?is he really THAT good? Stats suggest he doesn't perform in the big matches. We can do better IMO.

(and lennon has 9 assists in all competitions)

Anyone who thinks Blackburn would sell Bentley to us anyway is a moron.

Stats show we didn't perform well against the top teams....

Things can change.

How do we know its Bentley not performing against the top teams? It could be the strikers. Bentley could lay chances on a plate only for one of the strikers to miss it, or be saved by the keeper. But nothing gets said about this.

You cant make the statment he wont take us higher with just those stats.

Don't think Lennon is playing anywhere near as badly as people make out. He is starting to get more direct again and is beating more opposition which in turn means he has more chances to put in a final ball. Of course most of the time his final ball is shocking, but not always (great ball to Hudd who missed from almost point blank range with his head springs to mind). People weren't complaining about his final ball so much a few months ago because he wasn't even taking on the man. He is more dangerous now.

Would love to see him not try to place his crosses because he has that funny way of striking a ball. Instead if he beat the man, got to the bye line and then just fired it hard and low across the 6 yard box everytime he would be a real threat from there. The strikers would learn to get in front of the defender or would need to be sharp enough to be first to a deflection. Stop trying to cross, just beat the man and drive it.

I dunno, Blackburn don't have buckets of cash, big attendences or a large fanbase, they would find it tough to turn down a fat bid, as apposed to the likes of West Ham and Villa who are well backed.

Well I would hope we wouldn't put in a big bid anyway, because whilst I rate him, I'm not sure he'd be worth spending that much money on.

I just find this attitude that we can just walk in on any club outside the top 4 and just take their best players funny. Aside from Woodgate, when was the last time we actually did it? I'm not talking teams like Wigan or Fulham here, I'm talking teams that are gonna finish in the same 5th-11th bracket as us this year.

Thinking about it. Has Bentley ever had a good game against us?

Not sure what your point is? Bentley is a very good player, but not great. Lennon is also a good player, but not great. Both contribute to the team in very different ways and play completely different styles of football.

Like he said before, Lennon just needs to simplify what he is doing after he has beat the man and he would become a far more dangerous threat than he is now. Still he scares fullbacks shitless and when he is in full flow it seems the only way to stop him is to kick him.

Bentley on the other hand has a great right peg, decent vision is tenacious. Having said that he is a far cry from the 'new David Beckham' people are labeling him as.

If we can keep Lennon and get Bentley I'd be all for it but that won't happen. If I had to choose one or the other I would keep Lennon (even with his poor form).

What a conclusive thread this is.........................

Bentley, come and play for a big club.
Lennon, now lets see how you react with a bit of healthy competition.

Bentley in current form is by far the better player. I even think as an allround player that that is the case when both players are at the top of their form.

Lennon is too one dimensional, if you stop him beating you, you've beaten him!!

So...no one else has hope Lennon will bounce back? Playing like we know he can, he is one of the most dangerous players in the league. Unfortunately, this season his good games have been about 1 in 15.

You can be one dimensional if you are that quick. I haven't seen too many fullbacks who can deal with him when he goes at them. Even though they know what he is going to do they can't stop him going past them. Problem is he then tries to look up and pick out a cross or play a clever cut back. In fact if he was more one dimensional he would be better and he would be a great outlet, especially on the break.

Really what is with the Lennon hating? I don't get it.
