Holly House seem to cater to:

Fertility, Cosmetic Surgery and Weight Loss Surgery according to their website, there doesn't seem to be much if any information about advanced sports therapy or anything of that nature on their site.

maybe not everything is open to the public

In Defoe's own words "When I come back playing, I effectively return to sea level and when I run my recovery is quicker."

So he recovers his stamina more quickly because he's been training his lungs at 'altitude' in the chamber

Not going to do anything for the injury itself but may shave a little time off the outage.

I really would imagine that the doctors have done a cost/benefit on it already...

I think there are two aspects to this.

Vickery talks often of this from his Brazilian background as well. In fact he did a piece in March http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/timvickery/2010/03/fitness_the_key_for_brazillian.html

Not concerning us specifically, but in general, European football seem far behind Brazilian football in regards to fitness. I wonder if AC Milan might be the one exception. But it seems that we should be investigating and changing such things based on what Brazil does in football and America does in American football. It would be a very prudent step for any club. We have way too many injuries, and that has a lot to do with prep and post work by the staff on the players.

But the other aspect is that this is the same throughout the league. So we aren't losing 4th because of it. All the clubs are on an even keel. I imagine the first one that does start changing based on other world class organizations will find themselves with an advantage.

just the physio's...

and im sure we dont own any of the high tech stuff that is needed and we would use the equipment at holly house. So we would use what ever they provide

i totally agree with this, the quality of the medical team seems to have taken several steps backwards since Cowie left.

When a player gets an injury like Niko you have to wait for the swelling to go down before you can do a scan.

Hope this helps

I agree wholeheartedly with the points in I have emboldened. One thing that Ramos and Marcos Alverez did at the Club was try to introduce a much more rigorous and modern training regime. No body can complain that the players didn't seem to benefit from it as their fitness levels improved dramatically compared to previous seasons when they would run out of steam after 70 mins. The big problem was that the players, especially the English ones rebelled labelling it too tough, especially the dietary control that wa splaced on them. When Harry came in and relaxed the fitness sessions some players have gone back to struggling to play 90 mins. In extra time at Wembley, some of our players were struggling towards the end.

My point is you can bring in foreign fitness coaches and improve the facilities but if the players don't respect it then what to do next? It seems to be the ingrained culture of English players to not take training as seriously as it should be taken - the result - they get injured more easily and take more time to recover.

How many other teams have altitude chamber at the club?

As for Kranjcar, sometimes players dont get a scan until swelling has gone down to see the full extent of the injury.

what's dashing our CL dreams is chelsea and city winning the lottery - but a lot of spurs fans still have difficulties coming to terms with the basic economics of that

In Defoe's own words "When I come back playing, I effectively return to sea level and when I run my recovery is quicker."

This means that when he runs he gets tired, but training at simulated altitude means he gets his energy back quicker and is soon able to run at full pace again. This is conditioning for in-match fitness, recovery from being tired, not to do with recovery from injury.

But the point is that he returns to play games for us sooner this way.

No, it's not to do with recovery from injury between games. It's to do with conditioning for overall stamina. If you have a faster 'recovery' time between sprints, it means you have to spend less time resting before you can run at top speed again. It's an issue of aerobic performance, unaffected by injuries per se. Although theoretically it might help with a hangover...

I think when you get an injury like Niko's before you scan it you have to wait for the swelling and bruising to go down.

I've just read that you have to wait for the swelling to go down, before you can scan a player's injury.

I could be wrong though...

Me too Durrrr

Sometimes you can't scan an injury till swelling goes down. I think this is why Niko wasn't scanned sooner.

Here

If there is a lot of bruising and swelling they need to wait for it to go down before taking the scan...

Here
I am no medical expert by any means however maybe its something to do with the swelling going down first???

I thought that was standard?

Here

How many other teams have altitude chamber at the club?
