Any remaining minute possibility of Kanoute ever rejoining us disappeaared when he displayed a support Palestinians T- shirt under his shirt after scoring for Sevilla. I can only imagine the reception he would have got if he had done that at the Lane. Daniel Levy would now I am sure block any deal to re- sign him ( if that ever was realistic).

so, what does that have to do with why we wouldn't sign him?

Surely if he was good enough, it wouldn't matter what he had under his shirt?

Religion and politics have no place in football

In before lock.

Kanoute obviously believes that religion and politics DO have a place in football.

To suggest that a blatant display of anti- Israel sentiment would not go unnoticed at the Club with the largest Jewish support outside Israel is frankly naive. It would be disrespectful to a huge number of our supporters.

This has got nothing to do with him being a Muslim , nobody has any problem with that. His symbolic action goes beyond that and there is no way Levy and co would not have noticed it. Along with our Jewish fans.

Levy is surely a business first and foremost, if its best for the football club then I don't see why it matters.

Football players make mistakes as do other people, they just get judged by millions of people for it. If he was deemed good enough then I don't see the problem.

Not very good on the whole issue, but I don't think it would have as big an impact as you suggest.

Let us suppose that Kanoute had been playing in Turkey which has a very large Arab population and had revealed a pro- Israel t- shirt. If that would not have provoked a riot then nothing would. Ok our supporters are not volatile but the principle remains the same.

Kanoute is Kanoute , we all know he's done a few stupid things in his career, like playing for France & then declaring himself for Mali ??

But although were reknowned as 'Yid Army' 'Yids' 'Yiddos' etc... doesnt mean we are Jewish Fc or Israel Fc - there are all types of religion supporting Spurs , i'm not Jewish, but i'm still known as a Yid ?? LoL

Anyway, Religion & Politics like the General Levy said has no place in football, & it should stay that way.

It looks like I'm in a minority of 1 here . The fact is that we DO have a very large percentage of Jewish fans and like it if that was done at the Lane it would not be well received. More likely to alienate a large number of those fans than the non - political actions of Ghaly who is presumably a Muslim too.

In fact I agree that religion and politics should not be brought to the football field but that is EXACTLY what Kanoute did.

If I'm not wrong he's a Muslim and that has never stopped him from joining us the last time. What has religion got to do with football anyway...stop mixing them together.

I would of cheered him,its great to see a footballer who cares about a major injustice in the world, instead of asking for a 700k loyalty fee because he didnt ask for a move!

Off topic, but Turkey and Israel are in fact allies, and reguarly have joint military training excersises so if he happened to do that in Turkey where the population is mainly moderate muslims as opposed to extermists I doubt there would be much offence taken at all.

This subject has previous on SC. In fact we ended up banning threads on it in the debate forum and that holds good here too i'm afraid.
