I think you've got to factor in the recent injury disruption in front of him. The injuries varying in severity to Dawson, King, Gallas and Kaboul over the last few games, coupled with poor defending at set pieces, which again might stem from key team changes.

Friedel and Cudicini in the cups have both made some outstanding saves, showing great awareness and agility, however a young keeper does need to be purchased in the summer because inevitably age will catch up on our veteran keepers.

Well, IMO most of the goals we've conceded recently are more a result of bad defending than bad goalkeeping. I was against of signing Friedel, but have to say that he has been excellent.

Indeed, which is worrying because our back four have been consistent nearly all season but recently they seem to have forgotten how to defend.

Problem with Freidel is that he never saves shots which you wouldn't expect him to, so is hard to blame in that respect. Now compare to Gomes, who pulled off loads of unbelievable saves that you wouldn't expect. He also seems very static.

The reason I feel he has kept his place over a superior Gomes is for his organisation of the defence, his experience and general calm safe hands giving those in front of him more confidence - resulting in a defence performing better. Unfortunately for Gomes, as good as he is/was (where the fuck is he??) you could never be sure what he was going to do. He could run around like a mad thing, or drop the ball in his own net, which I think lead to a more nervous defence - even though these events where pretty rare (despite what the media will lead you to believe).

Personally I am a big Gomes fan despite his flaws, IMO his strengths outweigh his weaknesses. Feel really sorry for the guy, and feel we should have stated the season with Gomes rather than Friedel taking over automatically. Now we have no choice, Gomes is finished, career at spurs well and truely killed off by Harry, so unless we stick Cuddo in, who isn't really superior to Friedel these days then we have to stick as we are.

yep, there are now a lot of issues for Daniel to fix,... but Friedel is not the reason for this collapse. Spurs never would've been 3rd at any point this season without Friedel in goal. Gomes would have a couple good games and a couple highlight saves,... but would've single handedly gaffed a number of losses before Spurs ever had a sniff at 3rd IMHO. Friedel is not the problem at Spurs
