Breath-taking tennis from Murray in the end - the reaction of the French crowd said it all, despite refusing to cheer or clap him they couldn't help but gasp collectively in astonishment at some of his stroke play.

It's a bit like supporting Spurs, would be great if there weren't 3 players (in our case teams) who are better.

I like Murray, but the current standard of men's tennis is unreal, it's a credit that he is top 4 and can even beat these guys. In any other era he would be top 2, crazy.

French Open is Nadal's to lose though, this is his "home" turf.

For me Murray's best bet is the US open as it is his best surface and is always later on in the season and Murray is traditionally a late season player... in fact the break often comes at the wrong time for Murray!!

I agree that Murray's best chance at a Grand Slam is the US Open, the Austrailian Open probably as well, his best surface seems to be Outdoor hard.

This is the last Grand Slam I expect him to win, Roland Garros that is. He's just not aggressive enough on the clay I feel.

Men's tennis is so good right now, it always feels like a treat to see the top 4 compete, and then you have players like Del Potro and Berdych who can beat anyone on their days. Oh yea, I was wondering the other day but wtf happened to Soderling?

It highlights why Murray should be applauded, like Tim back in his day. Men's tennis in the UK has seen success, not as much as it maybe should given the investment, but i am firmly against people who slate Henman or Murray as these guys have and are doing great despite the limitations of the LTA.

Murray won't win Australia I don't think, at least not before the US open. I just feel he is never quite ready for Australia after the break, but who knows.

I agree I cannot see him ever winning Roland Garros whilst Nadal is around at least. Odd when you consider they played and trained on clay together, Murray should be good, but I feel the surface doesn't aid his trickery and guile (other than the drop shot). Even Federer took an age to win the French with his all round game.

Wimbledon?! Partizan crowd, but the surface seems to be slowing along with the balls and I am not sure that is good news for Murrray.

Yea I agree, I think Murray has been great and you may consider him unlucky that at this time there are just 3 in particular of the best tennis players in the history of the sport that are competing with him.

Yea I wouldn't normally say the Austrailian Open, I believe he has a better chance if the US Open too but I was just going on him making the final of the competition last year I think it was.

That's the thing, people used to always say that Murray trained on the clay in Barcelona or whatever and that he really liked the surface but it's always been his weakest, like you said, his style of play just doesn't match up with it, not when you have players who are so consistent with playing offensive tennis, like Berdych for instance.

Yea I'm not sure about Wimbledon, obviously the immense pressure just doesn't help but like you pointed out the courts and balls seems to be slowing and again, I just think potentially Murray could be blown off court. He's been in two Grand Slam finals I think? So with the way he plays it is possible but with Federer looking great still, Nadal seemingly reaching top form again and Djokovic playing breathtaking tennis I really feel that Murray needs to change his style of play a bit in like I said I mentioned before, being more aggressive on the court. If he doesn't manage to alter the balance of his play I really don't think he'll ever win a Grand Slam.

Murray has reached 3 slam finals, 2 at the Aussie Open and 1 at the US open. He has made the semis in the last 5 grand slams and the quarters in the last 6. I think he is showing signs of changing his game, being more aggressive on a consistent basis. I think his problem is mental, he has the ability and strength to play aggressive and swing hard. US Open semi finals in 2008 and Tokyo final last year show that, he blew Nadal off the court on both occasions.

The amount of break point chances he fails to convert against the big 3 is a big concern though, and usually if he does break he fails to consolidate it in his next service game. But again I think that is mainly a mental thing. The semi final defeat against Djokovic at the Aussie Open suggested to me he is getting closer to beating these guys in slams, despite the fourth set collapse.

I think with every year that passes without a major it will become more difficult, but I also think if he wins one he may win another 2 or 3. If he does not win a major I think he will go down as probably the best player ever not to win one, based upon his talent.

Gotta feel that's Tsonga's chance gone, Djokovic has the momentum now.

2 down (Sharapova and Kvitova) and Murray left to go, €20 treble, pays €75. Come on Murray!
