Federico Fazio has gone from first team regular to outcast in a matter of months. Why has it gone so wrong for the lanky centre half?

Surprise demise????

Not really. We played him, he was shit, we dropped him.

I think that's unfair. Whilst he's made mistakes, so has pretty much everyone in the team. He sees to have been unfairly scapegoated.

I think it's also now evident that Verts was deferring to him to organise the defence - nobody is doing that now.

A tad harsh, perhaps, but not overly IMO.

There's mistakes and then there's mistakes Fazio makes. They're in a different league.

I'm still baffled as to how an ex-international defender like Poch, at the end of his first season in charge, can have such a ill-disciplined bunch of misfits for a defence (excluding Rose of course)?!!

Some players have made massive forward strides under him and others have just gone backwards in the worst possible way. I don't get it at all. Hopefully he'll sort this out as a matter of urgency for next season.

Disappointing given that the Fazio - Vertonghen partnership began when things started "clicking" for the team. They looked the business at the back and Kane was on fire up front. Heck their partnership was even singled out on MOTD as being impressive.

OK he fucked the team at Fiorentina but surely he can redeem himself? I just like the size of the guy at the very least....he's a fucking monster!! :)

Wasn't it 17 games, 13 wins 2 draws or something? Everyone was raving about it. No idea why he'd been dumped so comprehensively.

He's the Gomes of defenders. Very good at certain things, but his mistakes are so unforgivable that I can't see how he we could ever be comfortable with him as a consistent starter.

Bad signing.

He's a poor fit for MoPo's preferred system due to his lack of pace and turning circle of a supertanker. It's not Fazio's fault, it's ours. There are plenty of teams who play in a way that would suit him. We don't and we should never have bought him.

By that criteria so is Vertonghen.
One's a mainstay the other a reject.
Funny old game.

Verts is also a poor fit but not as bad as Fazio. Neither look good playing a high line which plays to Lloris's strengths. Dier is a good fit but lacks experience.

Was it a Levy buy, or a Pochetto buy?
I suspect the former.

Dier came in and has held onto his place. It's sensationalizing the mundane that leads journos to declare that he has been dumped.
