Fulham's league position does not reflect the quality of their football, they've grown so much better as the season has gone on. Had they been like this from the start they'd be safe and sound by now so make no mistake we got a good result today.
They remind of Norwich from last season. A team brimming with talent. But very young, and not a lot of depth in terms of quality. I was happy they didn’t fire Farke, as he is a good manager. And we have seen they’ve reaped the benefits of that continuity In the Championship. Oh, and yeah, having our Skippy boss every game probably doesn’t hurt!

If they go down, I hope they retain Scott Parker. He shows promise as a coach. That’s speaking objectively. Subjectively speaking, I am livid at him and the other three or four coaches who voted against the 5 sub rule for this season. There have been so many injuries across the league this year. Their decision is detrimental to all players. And shows very little care for the long term health of the players. Those who used to be his peers. So, yea I respect his coaching but as a person, to make that decision is abhorrent. Never should have been a choice. Should have been a rule.

Looks as though top 4 will have plenty of twists and turns yet and we're still hanging in there, thought typically as soon as we have a dodgy 10 minutes our manager reverted to type and tried to put the shutters up,fortunately we got away with it for once, lets just hope Bale can stay fit as the quality is still there and he's constantly trying to put us on the front foot and is going to be vital if we can get anything out of the season.
Roll on Sunday when no doubt Zaha will be fit again!

I think we needed to put Lamela and Moura on to try to get hold of the game. We couldn't get out of our own half and were chasing shadows, it's got to be a mentality thing.

Could also be a tired legs thing.

Harry, Sonny, Tanguy and Bale all seemed to hit a wall at around the 55th minute mark. They were second to just about every 50/50 challenge and loose ball. They were running on fumes.

When Kane is having a stinker I don’t get why we don’t haul him off sometimes and put Vinicius on.

No player should be exempt from being subbed if they’re not having the best game.

The drop off from Kane to Vinicius is huge, the thing is Kane still brings a lot to the team even when he is misfiring in front of goal, his hold up play, intelligence, occupying defenders etc... is unmatched, that was the kind of game where we grind out a result and you're not going to do that with Vinicius on the pitch.

Think it's a formation issue? As we seem to be lacking in numbers in central midfield?

I think its an energy issue ! Depends on how hungry our players are. If they can press and win the ball like first half today then yhink formation is second!

Also, he’s one of our key defenders from set pieces.

On match of the day they said 6 of that Fulham starting 11 are on loan ! Find that absolutely mad tbh lol. On a side note we should seriously consider Andersen who they have on loan from Lyon solid and very good on the ball at cb

Yep just said the same thing about Anderson, looks quality. Very good passing range too.

Still only 24, feels like he's been around for ages.

We were interested in him while he was at sampdoria

Will take that result .
Thought we were awful on the ball throughout but more so in the second half, front 6 especially.
Don’t think PEH running around in headless chicken mode helps the shape either . Theres times I think he’s a slighter better passing Stefan Freund then others a top top player ... dunno
Anyway great result.

I thought he kept on giving the ball away

Just seen the VAR decision. That's ludicrous. Never in a million years is that - or has ever been - handball. Authorities need to get a grip.

In the final of a knockout tournament you could say the result is the only thing that matters but a 38 game league season is very different.

Some people on here were derided for expressing concern early in the season when we were top of the league that our poor performances were not sustainable... and we all know what ensued after that.

I don't know where the problem lies or how to fix it but we have dropped the most points from winning positions by far.. we got away with it today but it is a pattern and a concern.
Sorry, but I disagree.

First, except for Man City, no teams are putting out a consistent performance week in and out - teams are beating one another. The poor performances not being sustainable as you had mentioned applies to 19 teams basically.

Second, you mentioned we dropped points from winning positions, and that was because we were playing better than the opponents to be in winning positions in the first place. The capitulation, after so many games, yes like the patterns you mentioned, is evidently, coming from the poor, jittery defenders we have, making individual mistakes nobody coached them to make. Maybe this will bring in the argument that the gaffer shouldn't have chosen these players to start with or to sub with, but I think this had been argued to death where we are only limited with these mediocre players playing the most number of games in the whole of Europe.

And finally, the win had finally broken away from the pattern which many deemed we could have suffered the same. Why was that not a positivity I really have no idea, but instead, we got away? Really?

If Kane put away the 2 goals on his plate, this would be no different from the game against Arsenal where they constantly bombarded us with crosses and possession. And yet we were a masterclass then.

I don't like Fulham, but surely they deserved alot of credits due yesterday instead of deeming us as still incompetent and just only shrugged off what could have been a routine outcome.

I am comparing it with the one-off match scenario of the League Cup final precisely because this was probably the first game for so long we held on to a 1-0 victory with the opponent pushing us all the way. And the League Cup final will be no different from the 38 league games - only results matter.

Reminded me of the penalty given against Dier. The Refs and VAR are getting this hopelessly wrong.

Imo the biggest issue in the second half yesterday was far to many passes backwards from midfield back into the defensive area. Only really Ndombele was taking the ball on the back foot and trying to get the ball goal side of them and into better areas. That was a strange sub for me.

when a team pressed high like they did second half(it’s happened a lot this season and it’s a pattern in our game) you really can’t give them momentum by keep on going back and then the defensive players having to play percentage balls forward. it didn’t help with those full backs yesterday but we need to be far braver on the ball in midfield and full back areas and the manager has to install that belief in them that it’s ok if you make the odd mistake trying to beat the first press. if you do that a couple of times that can break the momentum and stops the other team committing so many bodies forwards. At the moment it’s like a slow death.

Very impressed with Andersen again. Think he would be a good replacement for Toby

He was very poor for our goal (said from a Dane) but he's a very good ball-playing CB. Still needs to improve his defending an decision making a lot though..
