I think bale is probably best suited as a LB, but he appears to have allot of the qualities needed for LM. He has been poor recently but then again so has allot of our players. I think BAE is quite good (and by that I mean solid enough, and had it not been for injuries allot better), and could also possibly play at LM. Gilberto I thought was more of a LM, unfortunately I can only think of his debut against PSV which was a shocker. Still i met him a few weeks back and he seemed like a nice chap.

People have to remember that although both Bale and BAE have been with us for over a season they have played hardly any football with the first team. BAE has played as many games this season as the whole of last season I heard!

I think Bale works better as a LB at the moment because he can link up with the left winger. When he plays left wing he is trying to do things on his own, knock it and run, rather than combinations with BAE or midfield/strikers. I think the full backs on both sides could get forward a bit more.

BAE is slowly coming good. I think he is a very solid defending, he just needs more and more games. The errors that he is making are occuring later and later in games and I think with a half dozen more games he will be up and running at 100%.

I think no matter what Ramos goes with, he should avoid chopping and changing players positions every week. If he thinks Bale can play LW then thats where he should play most of the time.

Actually, three or four times as many! His only appearance last season was against Bolton, early on. Before that I'm pretty sure that it was the CC second leg at the Death Star, so he's effectively been out for about 18 months.

Although we signed him primarily as a LB, Comolli said he can play at LM and even in central midfield, so once he gets properly used to the EPL he can be a very handy player.

What you say about combinations is true, and a big part of the problem is that we haven't been able to get one going down that side (for that matter, we haven't got one going down the right, either). We won't until we get a settled starting line-up. As far as Bale's concerned I think his ineffectiveness over the past couple of games is because he's been affected more than most by loss of confidence, not because of where he's been played.

rumour mills has it that Bale is the next player for Benitez wants to ruin.

I have seen the article in the SUN tabloid, HOWEVER, it is a half truth, a well placed source on teamtalk and i mean a well placed source mentioned it on tuesday on the forum, this journo has also figured out who the source is and presto the lazy journalism kicked in. Basically Robbie Keane has recommended him to Rafa according to the source. We can wait and see but i believe this guy and we should expect a bid in the future. also Bale only signed a 1 year extension to his contract. he had 3 years remaining and signed only for 1 more year. this boy is keeping his options open and will not sign a long term deal like our other players have. i believe him to be here for a shop window exercise. were we to get CL footie then he might change his stance. this is a personal opinion though.

The young lad has put in MOTM displays for Club and county so far this season in both positions. the last 2 games have been average becasue you can't always play your best all the time, especailly so young.
Also it'was very evident in both the Wigan and the Newcastle games the opposition looked to nullify him becasue he'd been our best player in the games before. Newcastle last night paid so much attention to setting up thier team on the right to stop Bales supply that when GDS came on they struggled to readjust to cope with his style.

Bale will hit form again and will hit that form playing at LB or LM.

He's been sloppy most of this season, left back or left midfield. Clearly he needs a few games to get established and settled.

Bale will hit form again and will hit that form playing at LB or LM.

think he had one of his poorest games for us yday. Pressure I feel played a part.

BAE was really good at LB, got turned once for the goal, but was generally very good, pace makes up for lack of strength.

Bale is only 19 and jst had a serious injury, I think slowly he'll find his feet on the left somewhere

I have seen him play three times this season at left midfield (Sunderland, Wigan and Last Night) and he has been poor. Played left back against Villa and Krakow and was one of our best attacking players.

When Bale joined us George Burley said he will become the best left back in the world in the next few years so due to the fact we have not bought and out and out left winger we are playing him out of position again. The only way the player will develop his defensive game is if he is played at left back and left back only just like Ashley Cole.

Wayne Bridge had the same problem when he broke into Southampton's team and was used as a left winger initially until the manager at the time realised that he does his best work coming from deep and made him into a good left back.

Bale has more potential then both Cole and Bridge and i just want to see us get the very best out of a very good player.

I'm sure Bale would be pleased to discover that Benitez wants him to replace Fabio Aurelio, does he even get on the bench for them?

Maybe Rafa should have taken a punt on him at Southampton, rather than spending about 10 million every summer without fail on a pair of shit to average fullbacks to replace the last pair of shit to average full backs he signed the year before. Did exactly the same this year again.

I hope our long term vision is to have Bale at left back and Capel on the left wing. And Hutton at right back and Bentley on the right wing.

The best game I have ever seen Bale play, he was played as a very advanced attacking winger.

In most games for us in midfield he has been just a regular left sided midfielder. If we play Bale in the middle, it should be where he can make runs and dribble into the box.

We can not let one or two mediocre games on the left banish him to be a left back all his career. It is obvious he has the tools, he just needs to play there consistently.

If he is further forward, we can get a taste of his amazing shooting from distance etc.

He is simply, not good enough defensively to rely on him in a back 4 away from home to the big 4. But he is perfectly capable of taking the big 4 on in an advanced position. He has tricks, good cross, nice shot and good movement/dribbling. We have to nurture him to his strengths.

I think yesterday's formation doesn't really work well for Bale as a left midfielder, however when he is lm in a 442, he plays a lot better, perhaps this is the problem as he's not used to playing in the 451 as on out and out lw.

He hasn't built on last season and I don't believe he'll make it at spurs.

Are you serious mate? Hope you were kidding. He is 19, he was injured at the end of last year. We are what 4 games into this season?? He showed for Wales what he is capable of...give the guy a chance..

Bit too much that comment, even by your standards
