Yep and got an assist.. As I said, LOOK for the positives, rather than SEEK the negatives ;)

Rather look at everything, positive as well as negative. You have to figure out if he can learn our system and will he improve it. Is his movement up to moving the defence around in the way we require. We'll know soon enough.

The only games he has played higher than those are e couple of Champions League games, Scottish football is no better than the Championship.
He played in the Championship when he was 19 and scored 20 goals in one season (a lot more than Nugent ever did).

I'm not saying he is proven on the highest level.

Indeed. Until he's wearing a Spurs shirt, it's nothing but opinions & guess work.

We can argue about the quality of the SPL until the cows come home - and at this rate it looks like Daisy and co are still miles away - but what is evident is his movement, positioning and ability to put the ball away. Yes he is playing in a poor league, but I trust AVB to identify if he has enough of those important characteristics to cut in in the EPL.

If AVB wants him, then it probably is a fair deal as opposed to being a good deal. He is constantly scoring for Celtic and although I have my apprehensions, I would like to see AVB given the opportunity to sign the players he rates.

Agree, as long as AVB rates him even Gary Blooper will get my vote!;)

Looking at his stats he's clearly a goal scorer, I don't doubt that if he gets chances in the PL he will finish them

It is a concern that he is untested and all his performances have come at Championship or SPL standard at the highest (well I suppose he's had CL experience with Celtic too)

5'9 means he's not the biggest and I have no idea about his link or hold up play or indeed suitability to our system or the role we would want him to play.

I have to be honest and say I don't really know anything about him and may have watched him play for Celtic against Barca but as far as I know I'd never even heard of him until reading this thread, my gut instinct however would be he's unlikely to be the player we need to upgrade what we have and with a fee around 10m I'd say he's too expensive to come in as cover or back up

Hard to judge anyone based on what they do in SPL.
Last season it was all about Jordan Rhodes - a player in lower division knocking gols in for fun but deemed not good enough for Premier.
Think this will be another case in point - and if they are asking £9m then it's way too expensive.

Rhodes is doing well in the Championship though, would imagine he'll be of interest again to PL clubs next summer if Blackburn don't make it up.

I agree, and I dont doubt that he will score the goals in PL also but my concern is the bolded part.

Come on people, look at how we are haggling over a nominal fee for Holtby, you seriously think Levy is going to pay 9 or 10 million for Hooper?

We are arguing over a nominal fee for Holtby, as he will be joining on the same personal terms as in the summer where he will be due a sizeable signing on fee that reflects the fact that the player is out of contract. So we need to make sure we don't pay too much for him as we are already giving him what would be a huge chunk of any transfer fee we would be willing to pay. Why is that hard to understand?

Look at our spending over the last few years, 9-10 million on someone we believe will score goals is well within our price range.

Again I ask do you honestly think that Levy will pay 9 - 10 million for Hooper?

I'm sure it is, but I would seriously question whether Levy believes Hooper is worth 9,10 million. If AVB wants him and has told Levy to go out and get him, then fair enough but I can't see it myself.

You could have said the same about Jelavic and he has done pretty well.

Well, but is well good enough. Our strikers do well, we want one up from well. Dempsey can do well, Ade can do well, Defoe can do well, we don't need more of the same, we need better.
