Saw that, reports originate from La Nueva who I have no idea on thier reliability. I would be surprised if we are actually interested tho seeing as he is on loan from Porto at River. He's also really struggled to make good on his potential, Porto have loaned him out a number of times over the years with rather underwhelming results. He looked really exciting at the last world cup when he came on. Still,I have no idea how he has done in Argentina, would have to ask @Ossie85. Obviously he is playing well in the WC. I imagine this is all agent talk to get him a better deal with River who have an option on him. Be interesting to see how he does against England.

Apparently River have an option to buy Quintero for around 3 million (dunno if it is £, $, Euros or bitcoin), and are likely to trigger this and then sell him to the highest bidder.

Quintero was a wonderkid who has not fulfilled his potential. But his eye for a defence-splitting pass, and his technical ability to deliver, has been clear at this World Cup.

I suspect we are interested as we need more players who can unlock a defence with vision and quick passing. And Davinson will have been able to tell Poch about Quintero's performance and level in training. But if Real want him too, the price could get high.

As an aside, if Real do sign Quintero, it may increase the chances of Kovacic leaving, and I'm sure we'd be in for the Croatian.

EDIT: I note wiki, citing Spanish language sources, states River's opton to buy is for 5 million Euros.

On 24 January 2018, Quintero joined Argentine club River Plate on loan for one year.[36] The deal reportedly was settled in €300.000 and included a buyout clause of €5 million.[37][38]

He's been at River Plate from what I've read, three seasons now. Not sure what to make of that. They have an option to buy as well

His recent form is because of how good he is playing for River. He wasn't playing as good last year for DIM. He's on loan with a 3.25m option due on December that River already told Porto they were going to use, not now, but when the loan contract is near the end.
I don't think it's agent talk. I think it's Porto trying to take advantage of his form in the WC. I've already read an article where it says Porto wants to make a deal with River so they can sell him now (given they can't until the loan contract ends). Something I highly doubt it will happen

On a side note, Quintero hardly plays the 90'. He doesn't have the stamina. I imagine it would be worse in the PL

Can anyone name a time where buying umpteen new players in one summer ended well? :cautious::unsure:

Still see it happening when I'm pretty sure it's a mistake oft repeated

Wolves are in the mix for Quintero also. I can actually see him turning up there.

Mendes friendly with Wolves, their manager Nuno Santo, ex Porto player and boss.

I think this is going to be an interesting sprint to the close of the window after the World Cup.

You are basically looking at 2 1/2 weeks for the English clubs to conclude their business - which is not much time at all for all the moving parts to fit into place.

Initially, I was in favor of the FA moving the transfer deadline up to the start of the season, but given the World Cup this summer, I think it might have been more prudent to start that policy next season.

IIRC whinging Wenger was one of the driving forces behind the earlier close to the transfer window.

I agree that the World Cup, or any summer tournament, will produce carnage.

But so for me does a unilaterally early closure of transfer dealings whilst the rest of Europe, and the rest of the world, can still conduct business.

Now English clubs will have no ability to recruit a replacement if they sell on deadline day, and this will probably lead to either less business being done late in the window or crazy ridiculous prices in an already bonkers market.

It will also directly affect the movement of players like Bale, where the primary suitors are PL clubs.

To me, this is a red herring. Teams will not sell players after the deadline - unless they want those players to leave. English teams will not be forced to sell anyone post-deadline.

It may create a scenario like Coutinho, where they sell in January. But all PL clubs are wealthy enough to withstand pressure from even the biggest clubs in the world.

But, where I think it does add pressure - is that when teams sell, they generally want a replacement lined up. So, if English teams are trying to buy foreign players, by the first week of August - it changes the time for those selling teams to line-up replacements, and those teams may be reluctant to deal so early in their window.
