Now this sounds more like Berahino saga v.2

Newcastle's Tottenham transfer target Georginio Wijnaldum ready to BEG to get Champions League move

The midfielder and Spurs both want a deal, but the Londoners are refusing to meet a valuation that's £10m higher than the fee paid for him a year ago

Georginio Wijnaldum is set to plead with Newcastle not to price him out of a move toTottenham.

The north Londoners have a keen interest in attacking midfielder Wijnaldum . And he, in turn, is ready to jump at the chance of playing Champions League football with them next season.

But they have no intention of meeting the relegated Magpies ' £25million asking price.

Holland international Wijnaldum turns 26 in November, and Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino’s recruitment drive has previously focused on players aged 25 and younger.

Also, the valuation is nearly double the £14.5m Newcastle paid Dutch side PSV Eindhoven for him just 12 months ago.

Spurs believe it is unjustified and - although they remain interested - are exploring alternative targets in the event that the Geordies refuse to budge.

Wijnaldum, who signed a five-year deal when he arrived last summer and scored 11 league goals in his debut season, has been left frustrated at the impasse.

He is ready to make his own case in the hope he can convince Newcastle chiefs to soften their stance.
£10 mil more than they paid for him? Tell Ashley to go fuck himself. If he overspends so much, it's nobody's fault but his own.

25 mill for a relegated player is daylight robbery, 15 mill is fair

Exactly, just because Newcastle doesn't think they're Championship qualities doesn't mean the same rules don't apply. Once you go down, transfer values are gone. Just like QPR holding out for a Premier League level fee for Charlie Austin that never happened.

What's the highest amount ever paid for a lower league player?

Just did some research and it's us signing Darren Bent for £16.5M!

Don't want wijnaldum.

Just reminds me of the slim pickings on MOTD.

Usually after Wijnaldums name was mentioned a few times, I used to think to myself, this is pointless. And turn it off.

Especially when the commentators would exuberantly pronounce it by getting louder at the end. As if he was a good player.

Can't explain it. Made me dislike football.

I would be upset if he signed for Spurs.

The most amazing thing about these comments is that people actually believe that a club will pay anywhere near £25m for him. The figure is made up in a paper then repeated. There's nowt as daft as football fans I guess

Spot on.

If Newcastle hold out for 25 mill then Wijnaldum better prepare himself for play in the championship next season.

Can see him putting up such a stink when the season is about to start and Benitez is preparing his squad for an away game to Rotterham that he get sold for 12 million somewhere.

Wijnaldum should fire his agent for not putting a Relegation Release clause, with a reasonable fee, in his contract.

Townsend managed to secure his exit through such a clause. And I know he signed during January, but agents get paid millions of pounds to look after the best interests of their clients, with expensive legal advice where necessary.

I suspect both Wijnaldum and Sissoko will do their utmost to force moves away from the barcodes, but Ashley will see them as assets on which he can make a hefty profit. And no clubs are going to pay £25m for Wijnaldum and £35m for Sissoko.

Would he be a starter? I don't think so, so why buy him? We are sorted for depth, at this point we should only be looking at players who would improve our starting 11 and Wijnaldum won't. I'm fed up with stocking up on midfielders who are on par with one another. It's pointless.

Well you can look at it either way he's agent secured a 5 and half year deal on 70+ k a week.

Townsend was cute it wasn't about the money more football at top flight. Townsend would've been much more aware of Newcastles situation when he signed there were already in a relegation battle.

The way Pochettinho demands us to play our central midfielders needs to be strong. Look what happened when Dembele and Alli weren't in the team we lost strength and athleticism. I'm actually thinking towards this signing if rumour has it that Carroll Mason both will be sold
