Does anyone else find it ridiculous that Newcastle are trying to sell Wijnaldum for £25 million when Henrik Mkhitaryan, the Bundesliga player to the year went to Man Utd for £26 million? :banghead:

No. Henrik had a year left on his contract. There's nothing wrong with a club trying to get as much as possible for a player.

Listen, there's absolutely no way that we would pay over 20m for Wijnaldum so anyone suggesting otherwise can calm down.

I personally think he's a good player and I think he would be a good addition to the squad. He's shown he's capable of winning games on his own, classy finisher in lots of different ways, quick, skilful and knows the league. We could do a lot worse.

There's no doubt that he has gone missing in some games but it's not like we don't have players that have been guilty of the same, including Eriksen, Alli and even Kane and we're not suggesting we don't want them to play for us next season. There aren't many players in a starting 11 that perform consistently well every single week. Additionally we should allow for the fact that the situation at Newcastle all season was ridiculous which must've been very hard to be in the middle of when you he was no doubt expecting to join a team competing in the top half.

I'd like to think that Poch could bring him in and coach him up to being more consistent and have him really contribute for us.

The issue, of course, will be the price if Toon continue to be unreasonable with their valuations.

I'm actually quite surprised at the amount of people against this signing.

Wijnaldum is a bloody class player who I've always rated since his PSV days and will definitely suit the style of play at Spurs. He can play almost anywhere in midfield and in my honest opinion will definitely be an upgrade to Mason, Chadli and even Bentaleb because he can also play in the middle (lets say Dier sitting back and GW sitting but also roaming forward).

He has a very good eye for a pass, great ball control and is very quick in tight situations. Great agility and stamina, will always look to move the ball forward and has quick feet and speed. At 25 that's the right age to get him because his still young but has experience in the premier league. And under Poch I'm certain he will only get better (do not believe at all that he has a bad attitude).

Now with regards to people doubting him because of the season he had at Newcastle (even though he had 10 goals and 5 assists) Just remember everyone cant automatically perform consistently. Just look at Lamela for us at his first year!!

Now I feel the reason why many are against this is maybe because of his valuation and I agree on that. No way will Levy sanction a £25million + offer for a championship player. But anything in the region of £15-18m I am all for it.

Boufal would be my first option ahead of any midfield signing because of his amazing potential and age but Wijnaldum is for me not a bad option at all and will definitely be an upgrade in terms of depth in the squad.

I can see this one happening. Much better than Mason, Carroll and Bentaleb, and would work well with Jansen.
Why are you comparing a guy who played almost all games last season on the wing and at AM last season to Carroll, Mason and Bentaleb? He's played CM in his career but never in a CM2 from what I've seen, so has had few defensive responsibilities. If we sign him, I'm pretty sure he would be competition for Alli, Eriksen etc.

Sanity, voice of reason, you can't tell people to calm down, we can't have this, we need extreme opinions that inflame the emotions and heated argument. ;):)(y)
P.S. I agree with your sane evaluation, now cut it out.

Correct sir, I wonder sometimes if people on here actually watch football matches that don't involve Spurs, if eriksen was playing for another team and we were looking at buying him people would be moaning that he's too inconsistent!!!! I for one would welcome wijnaldum from what I've seen and if pochard and his team want him too all good!

Think his performances that won him so much acclaim at PSV compared to those at Newcastle have demonstrated he's player much better suited to being in a dominant team. Put him in our team playing the way we did last year and I think he would surprise a lot of those underwhelmed with his prospective signing with how good he would be.

Georginio Wijnaldum tops Tottenham wish-list but Newcastle hold firm on £25m price
  • Tottenham are keen to sign Newcastle midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum
  • Magpies are determined to make profit on Holland international
  • He scored 11 goals and made five assists in Premier League last term
  • Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino could be put off by £25m asking price

But none of those were in a CM2. As @THFCSPURS19 said, when he was played in midfield it was invariably in a CM3.

Whose place is he going to take in our 4231? Even if we pay 18m, that's nearly 50m we've chucked down on our bench and our first team wasn't good enough to finish above Leicester and Arsenal and ManC, ManU, Chelsea & possibly Liverpool are all going to be be stronger next year.

I watched him several times and whilst he did score goals, his general play was fucking lazy, tactically inept and part of the reason Newcastle were shit.

There is no way on earth he's a better CM in a CM2 than Bentaleb and I'd rather we gave some of our promising 20yo's the chance to be "bench back up" than chuck another 20m for him to sit in the recaro seats.

i like the player from what I've seen, but don't think he is better than anyone we already have.

yes we need a stronger squad, players that will improve us, but this is only my own opinion we need better cover players, that are willing to be bench players that can come on and keep us strong.

will Wijnaldum be happy being a bench player, but be ready to cover for injuries and suspensions? will Eriksen, Alli or lamela be happy sitting on the bench? yes as mentioned rotation, but its not always easy to keep everyone happy, well until last season, that squad all bar 1 or 2 looked happy in being squad players.

most teams that win the league play with a settled team, one that's lucky with injuries, suspensions, and not too much rotation, just enough to keep them fresh. just wished the games before and after the CL matches were a little friendlier
