I hope Everton do get him. If we spend above 15 million on him id be massively disappointed. As much as he is versatile and scores the odd goal, the touted money for him is too much!

Whether or not we get him (if we really want him as opposed to have enquired to get an idea of affordability/feasibility before looking elsewhere) I'd rather Everton didn't get many of their key targets. Their squad has massively underachieved in the last 2 seasons and with Koeman (one of the best managers in the league in my opinion) now in charge and money to spend at long last Everton will soon be genuine rivals for ourselves and Liverpool.

There's no way they'll sell for £15m as they paid £14.75m for him. He's a talented player and certainly has a higher ceiling and much better end product than Townsend... yet they sold the latter for circa £1m less that the £15m you're suggesting Wijnaldum is worth.

For what it's worth I think this fella would be a good addition, always been impressed when I've seen him and seems to attack with purpose and chips in with plenty of goals.

I didn't suggest he is worth 15 million. I just don't think he's worth that kind of money to us given the inconsistent performances from his last season.

I doubt his ability to get into the team ahead of Alli and Dembele. We have CL football so we need to be targeting players who will compete and actually take the spot of current first team players. That's how improvement is made and titles are won rather than just signing squad players and back up players. I'm all for a strong squad but not for signing players to go straight onto the bench.

Dissapointed if we get him over gotze, especially for 20+ Mill

Exactly the reason why I doubt our interest is/will be sustained. We'll have a list of possible targets and currently be narrowing those down to a couple that we'll go after properly. Wijnaldum's reported price tag will be a reason he drops off the list I'd imagine. Wage demands or simply a desire to stay in Germany could be a reason Gotze also drops off the list. I half expect us to end up signing someone who hasn't been mentioned yet over the pair of them.

Why would it upset you so much? I don't think he is worth £25m either, but then most of the fees at the moment are out of proportion. If he comes in and makes an impact then I couldn't give a shit.

We have done our main transfer business so it's not as if overspending on him will directly affect other areas of squad improvement.

If we pay £25m then it means we can afford him. We don't need to always be smug that we got the best value for money for the sake of it.

Can't see him going for £25m. I think that's just posturing. It'll be £20m tops. Maybe a few add ons to make Newcastle feel better.

11 goals and 5 assists in a team that got relegated is very decent indeed, yes he can be very inconsistent but in a better team I think he would thrive.

4 of those 11 goals where against Norwich, and all 11 goals where when at St James Park.

the thing is if Townsend = £13m this guy is worth more. was quite impressed with what I saw of the live games on TV, and pretty good in the air too.

the 1 downside i would see about signing him is, not sure he would have the fight in him as a squad player.

on so many threads i read on here I keep seeing rotation will be needed due to 60 games, well at the moment we only have 44 games, and providing we get off to a flier, I would hope we play our best 11 in the PL.

last season Trippier and Davies rotated with Walker and Rose around EL matches, can't see that happening so much with the CL. our 2nd group match will follow up playing Man C, our 4th, 5th and 6th = Arscum, Chelscum and Man U, can't really see Trippier and Davies being used against those 4, but will Poch risk using them in the CL

I think Poch will rotate the fullbacks just as he did last season until we fall out of competitions he seems to have faith and trust in Davies and Trippier

If we pay 25 mill for him then we do have the money. So why did we not meet the transfer fee for Batshauyi if we were genuinely interested? Could have got a great striker even if it wasn't "value for money".

If Poch wants him then I want him. No point wanting him to go to Everton if Poch wants him at Spurs. Maybe we should sign a player Poch doesnt want instead...

He's a decent player and I think he might improve us depth wise, but if we are replacing Chadli with him then I fail to see much difference in overall quality there. Definite no for £25m.

Does anyone else find it ridiculous that Newcastle are trying to sell Wijnaldum for £25 million when Henrik Mkhitaryan, the Bundesliga player to the year went to Man Utd for £26 million? :banghead:
