With the squad as it is I'm 100% in agreement with you there mate, but then I'm not convinced this is the last of our 1st XI summer spending & I think if we're to land someone like Dos Santos, Jenas could find it tough to keep his spot, purely because I don't see anywhere for him to fit...

you do realise that we will be prob. using a rotational system, so dont be suprissed If Jenas playes 30+ games

Hi Kendall :) - you may be right

But I keep seeing line ups like this

Santos Modric DM Capel or variants thereof

and I think so JR is gonna start next season with a mid that has no prem experience - and I think no way Juande - he ain't a gonna do that

we may well get in a santos or Capel or both - I hope and pray we get in a proper DM with leadership skills as well if possible

but a whole new mid trotting out at say sunderland or Blackburn - can't see it and wouldn't want it probably (yes if the all new mid had won the last two friendlies 6-0 maybe maybe :)

I do realise that but as Modric and Dos Santos are attacking midfielders and Jenas is too, that 'could' make him 3rd choice.

Anyway, our rotation policy hasn't been so hot so far, as Bent was expected to play 30 games this season.

Lets not forget, Dos Santos has just ticked 20 and would be looking at his first season in a vastly different league. I would see him being our third choice for a little while, behind Modric and JJ. Unless, of course, Modric doesn't set the pitch alight like we're hoping he will

its not news that inter are after him! But I'm not 100% sure he will go there! Not convienced that he is type of player mourinho would go 4! I might b wrong there though! Also if he wants to play week on week out I'm not sure at Chelsea or inter he would get much more game time than he does at barca at the moment! Which I kind of thought from what the papers are saying is one of the main reasons he wants to leave barcalona!

If Dos Santos wants to be third choice, playing a handful of games, he can happily stay at Barca.

If he comes to Spurs, and I hope he does, it will be to play regular first team football. Remember he was voted second and third best player at the U17 & U20 World Cups - that's the second and third best player in his age group in the world. Plus he's very versatile - he can play on both flanks and as an ACM.

If both Dos Santos and Capel come, I expect Dos Santos to play more games - even though Capel has been a regular starter for Sevilla.

PS he was born in May 1989, so he's just turned 19.

DC Boy couldn't agree more. It's pie in the sky stuff to think that our midfield for next season will be totally new. Jenas at his best (Arse 5 - 1) is outstanding. Steed too showed his worth last season. What happens remains to be seen but i would be amazed if an all new midfield lined up at the start of the new season

Being good in a tournament doesn't necessarily mean that they are "the second and third best player in his age group in the world." All it means is that their form at the time was very good. Now I am not doubting he has talent, but you were getting ahead of yourself a bit there.:)

Finally, some quotes. These from his dad (allegedely)

http://www.sport.es/default.asp?idpublicac...idseccio_PK=803

Tomorrow may be PLAYER'S CLUB English
The transfer of Giovani dos Santos to Tottenham, apalabradoEl footballer's father, Zizinho, explains that Juande Ramos has described his project and although it is a risky bet may be the best thing for him
Giovani may have told their hours at Barca
Paul Giblin / Xavi Lopez
Giovani Dos Santos is a step to change the Camp Nou by the White Hart Line of Tottenham Hotspur after that all parties, clubs and players have left the track operation.

The vice president Marc UK Sports has established a principle of agreement whereby the club will receive eight million euros for the Mexican striker, who can reach the eleven depending on different variables such as the disputed parties, goals scored and goals achieved by Tottenham.

The coach of the London club, the Spanish Juande Ramos, said the young Barcelona striker as one of the reinforcements for his team for a new leap in quality for the next campaign. His speed, his arrival in the area and his shot has been the best arguments that have attracted the attention of the trainer 'Spurs' because cree que with these characteristics could be adapted to perfection-style game of the Premier League. Although it is conducting negotiations, that it has followed with anticipation to the pending closure in a positive way.

The representative of Mexico, Pini Zahavi, and Marc UK in London finalized the details in the first days of this week can be closed, even tomorrow Monday.

Zizinho, father of player, explained the daily 'Record' Mexican despite being very close to signing on transfer "is not closed". Former Brazilian footballer added that "it is an honor that teams such as Tottenham are set in Giovani, but there is nothing official yet but is well under way."

The young player and its surroundings have been in contact with Juande Ramos and Giovanni's father said in this connection that "the project that is promising and has offered Giovani ambitious and wants to become great in the Tottenham and helping the team to be. It is true that to leave the club this is a risky decision, but for his qualities seem to be the best option for him, "he said Zizinho.

They can't make up quotes...can they?

"It's an honour that teams as important as Tottenham are interested in Giovanni, but nothing's official yet, although it is very advanced."

"The project that they [Tottenham] have is promising and ambitious, and Giovanni wants to become great with Tottenham, and help this team project to become reality. It's true that leaving Barca is a risky decision, but bearing in mind his qualities this seems to be the best option for him."

what the f@@k is goin on in this thread i dont understand any of it are you lot trippin or something?

If you mean the news that's been cut and pasted, it's from spanish websites and been translated online, so naturally it comes out as a bit of broken English.

Everything else is pretty clear & run of the mill for this time of year though

His dad is his #1 handler and acts more or less as his agent, so these quotes are very good news for us.

there were quotes from his dad about his move to Man City a month or so ago though, and all that seems to have gone quiet, you never know, he could just be saying this to alert Inter into pulling their finger out...
