They're saying we've signed him? Not that we're going to or are likely to or want to... that we've actually signed him?

Really? It would be rather interesting if we had, since all the talk has Levy, Comolli or the Tea Lady in Barcelona trying to tie up Eto'o. Perhaps the papers were wrong or it was cover. However it is Talkshite, which means they were probably talking shite.

Here's some info on him from the Barca site:

Giovani Dos Santos Ramírez

Giovani is only the second Mexican player to pull on a Barça shirt following on from Rafael Márquez. He joins the senior squad at the age of 18.
Giovani comes from a footballing family – his father ‘Zizinho’, was a professional player with Monterrey and his brother, Jonathan, has also been with Barça -, and has been learning his trade at the Club since 2002.

His progress through the youth ranks of the Club saw him play with Infantil A (2002-03), Cadet B (2003-04), Cadet A (2004-05) and Juvenil A (2005-06). Last season he played with Barça B.

Giovani Dos Santos made the definitive step up to the senior squad for the 2007-08 season, though he trained with first team in the previous summer, making his debut – goal included - against Aarhus in Denmark on 28th July 2006.

On the international stage, he won the World under-17 championship with Mexico in Peru in 2005, where he was chosen as the second best player of the tournament. He also took part in the World under -20 championship in 2007, where Mexico were eliminated by Argentina in the quarterfinals. This time he was chosen as the third best player.

PROFILE

Giovani has powerful legs and stands out for his speed and dribbling skills. This left-footed player is dangerous down either wing but can also play behind the main striker or as a centre forward. He usually takes his chances in front of goal.

Looks likely that both he and Barca would be happy to part ways for him to come to Tottenham then... :-|

Wasn't there something about Barcelona wanting to ship him out a week ago or so???

I would love it if we got him, by no means a finished article, but plenty of potential...

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Dos Santos a central Attacking Mid? Do we need another one with modric and jenas?!

He probably will leave but the likelihood of us signing him at the moment is very slim, unless Guardiola seriously hates him for some reason. Also I'm sure if he was for sale Barca would be advertising it to all clubs around europe so they get the best price possible.

Dos Santos is a forward. He plays up top with Vela in the Mexican lineup. I'm not sure whether he's a goalscorer or a distribution type.

According to his profile he has a lot of pace and can on either wing, as an attacking midfielder or a striker... so yes please!

He only played up front for the U20 because they didn't really have anyone else. For Barca he plays RWF when Messi is injured or sometimes central attacking midfield. He would seriously struggle in the prem at the moment, would need alot of time.

He has been unimpressive this season by the way, and there was talk earlier that Barca would let him go as they thought he might not realise his potential, but he would be very expensive and a risk for the price.
