I just wondered what you all made of Gio's performance against England on Monday night?

I thought he was pretty sharp, even if he still looked a little chubby-cheeked.

I know he divides opinion among Spurs fans, but I watched him play for Mexico against USA a couple of times last year and he was truly outstanding - scoring a pressure penalty in front of 100,000 crazy Mexicans - as well as making goals for others too.

Should we be calling him back next season? Can he fit into our team? He's two-footed and quick, so should be versatile across the front line, but does Harry fancy him? I reckon he's been unlucky at Spurs, but hasn't helped himself with some show-pony performances, but he's still so young and will learn with coaching.

In any case I'm looking forward to seeing him make an impact at the World Cup.

What do you reckon?

Daniel I've moved this to columns as it seemed more appropriate.

Agree re GDS. He played well and it could save the club some big money if we hang onto him instead of buying a replacement.

was very impressed with him the other night. Lets see if he can continue his good form throughout the world cup.

Would save us a small fortune trying to find a replacement and would certainly be an option in the last 20 or 30 mins.

I was very impressed with him. He was clever, quick, linked well with his colleagues, dropped short to find space and played the ball quickly and mostly well.

Would link up well with Modric and could play the second striker role, or midfield link. He is also quite versatile playing on the either wing at times
I assume Harry has been monitering him and if decisions haven't already been made I would like to see him back.

There was discussion on here earlier in the season as to whether he would return automatically or whether they had an option on him.

Ledley will certainly give a good account of him to Harry as he left him floundering at least once.
A season back at Spurs will not dent his value if he is as good as he appears.

i agree, really impressed me the other night, anyone who can score a hatrick for barca is good enough to at least sit on the bench for us in my books! thats being said he needs to sort his attittude out which i think was his main problem when he joined us.

Lets hope he has a blinding WC so his transfer value rockets. I'd have little hesitation in selling him, he will not cut it in the prem.

I've said this dozens of times before - hat trick for Barca, then they ship him out for quite a low fee - this is the bit that doesn't sit right with me.

We all know he's got potential, but is he disciplined to turn that potential into real talent? For all his cockney arm-round-shoulder barrow-boy charm, HR is quite ruthless on discipline - look at how Keane was shipped out for the Xmas party shenanigans, when the rest of the world thought Pav was on his way out?

He may be one of those players not up to the pace of the Premier league or it may be a case of maturity but I think he's done enough so warrant a chance at the first team before we decide to ship him out.

We'll end up spending money bringing in players with a lot less talent IMHO.

I dont think anyone has questioned his ability, more his attitude, rumours of partying, turning up late for training, lack of effort etc. We dont need bad eggs in the squad, so id prefer he went and we tried to get in Arda Turan as part of the deal. To me GDS is just another Robinho, Elano, Jo

I really only see GDS as a player in a 4-3-3 formation. If we are to play that next season (a little), then it might eb worth keeping him around (providing we don't get a big offer). BUT and a Sir-Mix-a-Lot size one at that, as Boony says above, he has got to pull his head in.

I do remember hearing that he knuckled down with us and worked hard only for his progress to be halted by injury.

He is more versatile than Turan and Cole. As others have mentioned, he is a pacy option for either wing or a second striker role. I would feel comfortable with losing Keane and keeping Gio.

He has time on his side and he seemingly doesnt suffer from "Taarabtlitis" (ie im too good to be here).

I think we should keep him and try to develop his talent.

When he first arrived we were all raving about him, how good he was etc but sadly 2-3 years on he hasn't fulfilled his potential at all. A few good games for Mexico is all he has under his belt and even out on loan in the Turkish league he simply hasn't demonstrated the desire to prove he's top draw. Consequently this tells me he has a poor attitude to training, discipline etc otherwise why hasn't someone else from a decent size club come in for him ?
Get rid of him I say and replace him with a player who really wants to play for Spurs and shows, consistently, the right attitude.

I too dont agree with the "he scored a hat-trick for barcelona" arguement as it was apparently against a low-quality team. BUT I would like to see how he handles pre-season after the WC and give him one more chance.

What happened to the rumour that he has a younger brother, who is better and a harder worker?

Jonathan Dos Santos is also in the Mexico squad. Barca won't sell him anytime soon though.

If Gio comes back with the right attitude, then i'd be happy for him to stay and fight for a place. He has the potential to be a top class player. The question is whether he really wants to accomplish it, or if he just wants to party like Ronaldinho.

I have afriend who works for el Mundo here in London covering the football. She used to speak to ramos a lot and even back then HE was unimpressed with GDS' attitude and lack of discipline. Always late, bit of a party boy. Has he changed enough to impress Harry on these fronts. He obviously has the skill but it's a players attitude tht helps that translate into good performances.

I love the IDEA of having Gio with us next season but I just dont think he wants to work hard enough defensively for our league....hope he grows up a bit this summer.

Saying that though, I kind of get the impression that after Harrys' chat with him and his parents Gio did knuckle down a bit, I think mayb he was loaned to Gala purely coz 'Arry needed people whos game he knew and could rely on 100% toward the end of a huge season for us, also maybe he linked him up with Rijkard again coz he felt he was someone Gio would listen to having been under him at Barca.....

I dunno, but a Gio with a good attitude-yes please

He did ok the other night, that's for sure. I was impressed with how he wanted the ball a lot. He's something different from what we have and might be worth keeping, but it depends whether he wants to stay.

I'm on the fence really, we wouldn't get big money for selling him, but would probably spend more to replace him in the squad.

He's very direct, which is good.

One thing though, the hat-trick he scored for Barca has absolutely ZERO relevance to whether or not he is a good enough player or not. Much in the same way Ronnie Rosenthal's against Southampton didn't!

Gio certainly is a conundrum.

I am watching the Holland v Mexico match now, he has come on as a sub and is ripping the Dutch apart. We have to at least give him a chance next season, we could end up spending a fortune on a replacement when we already have a player of real quality within our ranks!

I agree, he also offers many options......can play on the right wing (when lennon is injured or needs subbing), can be a direct centre forward (combining with defoe/crouch) and could drop back and play at the front of a diamond....... we need forwards who can beat a man
