According to the Metro this morning, it looks like he's finally going to get his dream move to Sevilla FC.

I personally think he'll still be here come the start of the season.

Yes I don't think we'll get anything like the money Udinese offered last season

Hope Malaga like him.

For both parties sake I hope we can sell him this summer.

In my opinion (if true) Levy made a terrible decision holding on to GDS and not just cutting our losses on him

Ok he may have had a better offer from Italy but if GDS refused to go anywhere but Spain we should have just taken whatever to get him off the books.

A year (or two) later we've paid so much in wages to him as a player who is worthless to our squad that that alone would have been worth giving him a free transfer in my opinion, now his contract must be almost out and we won't be able to sell him for much anyway.

The boy was a terrible buy and personally I just want him, Bentley, Bassong, Jenas off the books so we can write them off and get on with our own business.

Take whatever from whoever he will go to just to get shot of GDS and write him off as a gamble gone wrong (and be thankful he wasn't as bad as Rebrov or Bentley)

this is such a puzzle. I remember me and my housemate at the time being in virgin gym when we signed him and rushing downstairs to see his highlights thinking 'fack me' how have barca let this happen.

He does have a wand of a left foot maybe England just hasn't suited him ala Veron. And that offer from Udinese, wow!

Maybe he was just never that good and was living off one highlight reel hattrick for Barca against 3rd opposition and flattering to deceive at international level playing against yet more substandard competition

I agree the English league perhaps makes him seem worse as his style is not suited but I don't think he is anywhere near as good as Veron was and I think the fact he played for Barca created a false hype.

Agreed on the hype part, particularly as at the time it was rumoured the Chavs were all over him. And for Mexico he is great. Apparently he's pretty decent in Whisky mist as well!!

ALthough I agree, to some extent, DL was in a difficult position: we had an Italian club offering £10m+ but a Spanish club, who knew the player wanted to go to them, offering half that. The boy was on a L/T contract so, although I agree that we should've cut our losses sometime ago, I can see why DL was prepared to wait.

But his value was only going to decrease with him not playing for us for another year, not to mention his contract having lost a year (he was never going to play much for us so we'd be paying him for nothing as he devalues as an assist)

If he refused to go for the bigger offer I think we should have just cut our losses as we were never going to get the better amount for him. Now not only did we not get the £10m, we also didn't get whatever Sevilla offered and on top of that we probably paid him £3m in wages and now his value has gone down anyway and he'll probably just dig his heels in again to be sold for peanuts where he wants to go or sit out the remainder of his contract while we pay him another £3m in wages and wait for him to walk out on a free.

It seems like cutting off your nose to spite your face to hold on to him just because someone else is offering more money (irrelevant when the player refuses to go to that club)

A factor that I wonder if it had an influence is any sell on clause Barca may have on his contract

You're right, and I know that - it just annoys me that, once again, player power trumps everything else.

A player should have some say in who he plays for.

Younes Kaboul articulated his thoughts in the great tradition of Eric Cantona:

Kaboul could have been a Sunderland player when Spurs decided to sell up and described the moments when he turned down a move to Wearside 17 months ago.

And it is not often you hear a footballer say this: “The reason I did not come here was because of Daniel Levy who runs Spurs. He wanted to treat us like a cow. I said to him look I have a personality and a mind of my own, I am not a dog.

“He told me I have a flight for you all with Malbranque, Tainio and Chimbonda. He said you are going to Sunderland, I said: “No, I go where I want, not where you want me to go. “Look, Sunderland are a decent club but I do not like people imposing anything one. Like you are a dog or something like that.”
