Rossi has been involved in the most goals and assists of any player outside of Madrid and Barca.

Anyone know if he qualifies as home grown? He had 3 seasons as a Manure player but for half of one was on loan to Parma.

On Rossi's second goal tonight, that was exactly what Defoe needed to do against Newcastle with his chance just before half time.

I swear he said that precise line 2 days before Piennar had his medical

The difference being that we had been very, very firmly linked with Pienaar by both ITKs and media. We've had very little on Rossi and, as far as I can tell, bugger all on Hulk. We have, on the other hand, heard an awful lot about Suarez.

I wasn't suggesting we were about to sign Rossi, merely that HArry saying we are no where near signing anyone doesn't mean that is the case.

The thing with Rossi is that Villarreal usually play a system that suits him and Nilmar perfectly. I know Nilmar has been injured lately so they've changed it up a bit but they normally have Nilmar and Rossi up top with Cani and Carzola behind they play really nice intricate football. I think a lot of people would agree that watch la liga that they play the 2nd best brand of football behind Barca.

Oh, I fully agree that the standard default position of regarding everything Harry comes out with as flannel/bullshit is a sensible one to take; the sheer weight of ITK and media links does make it seem more likely that Suarez is our main target, though.

We have at least definitely made a bid for Rossi though.

No, I think you'll find the tapping was years ago. They were told by someone within the club.

'Rossi not interested in Tottenham move'

Sport.co.uk understands that Villarreal forward Guiseppe Rossi is not interested in a move to Tottenham Hotspur during the January transfer window with his agent locked in talks over re-negotiating the player’s contract at El Madrigal.

Rossi, 23, has been in fine form for the Spanish giants but was recently linked with a January transfer window move to Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.

The American born Italian international left Manchester United after mixed loan spells at Newcastle United and Parma, joining the Yellow Submarines for £6.6 million in 2007. The Italian is currently re-negotiating his contract at Villarreal, and is focused on the season ahead at the Yellow Subamarines.

“Well there were some rumours of Tottenham Hotspur having contacted Villarreal but I no nothing of any contact with myself or the player, or an offer from Spurs.” Federico Pastorelo explained to Sport.co.uk.

“Nobody has called me. And I don’t know if Guiseppe would be interested. It is the middle of the season so I am not sure it is the right time to move for him. He is playing very well and has been fantastic. He has already scored 19 goals in all competitions.

“At the moment we are looking at extending his contract, so to be honest he is not that interested in moving elsewhere.”

Barcelona, Inter Milan and Real Madrid had been linked with a January move for the 23-year-old, however, any formal offer lodged by potential suitors will be reported to Sir Alex Ferguson who will then have the chance to match or beat such a bid after insisting on the insertion of a special clause in the player's contract when he left Old Trafford.

Rossi's chief representative revealed to Sport.co.uk last month the unique idiosyncrasy in his client's contract:

“Yes, before the club can accept any offer for Giuseppe they must check with Manchester United," Pastorello confirmed.

"I think it was a 24 hour window to answer whether they want to match the offer of a competing club, but obviously then it is up to the player to and if he wants to re-join United."

Hmm Rossi.

IMO if you put Defoe in L'liga he'd tear it up, shift and shoot all day long.

He's a wee bit short really - I'd think with the current 4-4-1-1 lineup we'd be looked at 5'11 minimum as they gotta LEAD THE LINE BABY!

Ahem.

Giuseppe Rossi has ended the speculation around his future by signing a new contract with Villarreal until 2016.
