I take far too much enjoyment in finding disappointments and/or flops that we have been linked to at one time or another, and am often surprised by what I find. Feel free to disagree but looking back at this season I'm personally glad we didn't sign--

Moutinho: 1 goal and 8 assists, not terrible by any means but our own more affordable "flop" (not my opinion) Paulinho contributed to only one less total goal and did so in fewer games played. (And let's be real, Ligue 1 vs EPL...)

Keisuke Honda: Since joining Milan on a free in January, has gone on to score once and assist twice in 14 games. I still think he has potential but so far he hasn't shown to be too dissimilar from Chadli who has put up 1 goal/3 assists in 15 (I personally wish Chadli all the best....at Swansea).

Damião: An obvious one but it begs to be mentioned. In the last 26 games (including both Internacional and Santos), he has scored a whopping 5 times. He's only just started, but I have yet to find a single comment from any Santos fan or media that doesn't absolutely lament his arrival.

Perhaps flop is an overstatement (though I would argue not for Damião) but you get the point. And of course there are more qualities to a player than goals and assist statistics but if you look at the overall performances of the above three they have been underwhelming at best.

What linked players for you, past or present, fall into this category?

The case of Moutinho can be argued but Spurs sure doged a bullett when they decided not to play the asking pirce for Damião.
Brazil seem to have quite a few 1-season wonder strikers coming to the scene every season - just to fade away the next.

Not signing Moutinho and selling Van Der Vaart on Transfer Deadline day in August 2012 in the stupidest thing Levy's done in recent times. Signing Lloris is the only thing that makes up for it.

Stewart Downing obviously and.....

Michael ricketts. Wtf!! Remember being linked to him during his Bolton spell. He had that one England cap with a performance which is probably the worst of any England player ever..

He went to boro for about £8m I think in the end and was pants there and became a journeyman through the leagues.

Since he went to boro and his subsequent moves after that he has scored 27 goals in 175 appearances.

Erik Lamela.

Some reports even said we did sign him last summer, so strong was the link, and since then I'm not sure he's even played for Roma.
If we want to start saying imaginary footballers then Im happy we didnt sign Roy of Rovers

There's a good deal of circumstantial evidence to suggest that VdV wasn't in Villas-Boas' plans, and because Real fucked about over Modric we were left with just a few days to pull off what turned out to be pretty complicated negotiations.

There is no guarantee whatsoever that Moutinho would have flourished in the EPL in any case.

Charlie Adam, Phil Neville, Andy Carrol, Stewart Downing, Kenwyne Jones

The list goes on and on...

If we'd have signed Moutinho we'd be laughing right now...and then maybe crying as he makes his way to Real Madrid this summer :p

Leandro Damiao had disaster written all over it, not surprised he has slumped in the last year or so.

Iirc correctly most people on here were screaming at the club to just pay the £25m or so that Inter wanted for him as well...
