"Even now, when I go over to my mother's house and dig out the old tracksuit tops I wore, it makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck. I like to think i am part of a special family. I am no longer connected with the club on a daily basis, but i'm delighted with every win and sad about every defeat." - Steve Perryman

"The biggest regret of my whole football career was leaving White Hart Lane in 1970.....my interest in football weakened after that. I was heartbroken" - Jimmy Greaves.

"I always said that it was an honour to serve Tottenham Hotspur and I feel the same every time I walk back into the stadium." -Sir Bill

It's quotes like these, that when read again, show that players like Bale arent particularly worthy of the defense they get when they refuse to train or show disrespect to our club...

Just a point, but are Madrid really the biggest club in the World?

I think a fair argument could be put forward for Barca, Bayern Munich and Man Utd having a greater claim to that accolade.

Most successful in Europe and make the most money. Just don't mention that the club is built on the favour of a fascist dictator.

Regardless of how great he has been for us i have no interest in wishing him any luck or anything else for that matter. The way he has conducted himself over the move has been disgraceful and shown a total lack of respect for the men and the club that put him on the map and gave his a stage on which to perform.

Wanting to move clubs is no big deal and it's not for that reason i will not wish him all the best, it's his fucking conduct all the way through for me.

Fuck me anyone would think he has been playing for us consistantly for 5-6 years. A season and a half........ a season and a fucking HALF!

I say good luck to him. This latest phase of rebellion isn't enough to outweigh his contribution to our cause last season and the one before.

Lovely quotes. It must be said, however, we were one of the big boys back then (I think we're close to being back there myself). Much easier to be a loyal to a club who regularly won things. And things like the FA Cup and UEFA Cup were kind of a big deal back then and not the ugly cousins they are viewed as now by many.

The finance itself was very different. Players had much less power and the money involved, whilst making top footballers back then independently wealthy compared to most people weren't the eye-watering amounts than even average footballers can earn now.

We were just a stepping stone... :grumpy:
And when it comes to RM, Barca and maybe Bayern likely always will be. We're very close, the next couple of season all going well (not hoping for much then!), to being at the top table though. A club where other players will kick up and act like a petulant child to join. Not sure how I feel about that tbh but it's just the nature of the beast.

I wouldn't even say that. He was largely anonymous for us last season until his hat trick against Villa on Boxing Day.

He scores some spectacular goals but his overall contribution in 90 minutes is largely lacking. people forget the 85 minutes where he did nothing and only remember 25 yard goal he scored at the 10th time of trying.

I'd much rather he stayed, but as a team, we'll miss him less than the losses of Van der Vaart, Modric, Berbatov and Carrick. Yet we'll get a fee for Bale worth more than the fees we got for those four other players combined.

No player is bigger than spurs, players will always move on. I am not sure all the rubbish about Bale refusing to train is true, I just cannot see him behaving like that. But as previous posters have said greater players have left our great club and have upset me more than Bale. I will just say good luck to him as I would a colleague at work who moves to another company.

He's been a great player for us, and I really wanted my boy to grow up with GB in a Spurs shirt to look up to.

But, it wasn't to be.

In return, he's paid for half a new team of International powerhouses + Soldado and Lamela who I expect to be outstanding players for us.

We can challenge for Honours without Gareth Bale because of Gareth Bale - could we have said that last season? Everyone's won.

Thanks for the Spam rating by the way.

I simply dont get your reasoning here, none of it. I like most of the others on here I am not upset with him wanting to move, I am not upset by us getting top £ for him (if we do), I am upset by his attitude which has been clearly stinking over the last number of weeks. He signed a contract exstension (pay rise) when it suited him, he should of honoured it, Im guessing the plan was to well him next season. Us as fans should not stand for anyone disrespecting our club especially sumone who is paid so highly and someone we as a club have put ALOT of work into over a number of years. It was a privalage for Bale to play for Spurs, it shouldnt be a privalage for Spurs to have Bale playing for us. Just my opinion, Spam me again if you must Mr Spam alot!

Levy has wanted to sell from day 1, he just wanted the right money. Bale's heads been turned by the biggest club in the world, I don't have any ill feeling for him, I just thank him for rescuing us from 9th place last year.

Please...that is a silly argument based wholly on a buffoon believing that a fair reflection of Bale's influence on the team would be to take his goals out and see where we would have finished up. That means we would have been condemned to play the same formation and with ten players, while everyone else got to play with 11, their most important player and their preferred formation. The fact is that AVB specifically set his formation up to take advantage of Bale's skill-set. The only way it would have any validity at all, and that is still not a lot, would be if every other clubs' most important player was removed, and/or we all replaced that player and altered formations.

And the whole bluddy notion is underpinned by the idea that it is alright for United to have a player like RVP, or Chelsea have a player like Mata, but there is some kind of transgression of an immutable law for Spurs to have a fecking good player :banghead:

Don't see how there can be any negativity towards Gareth Bale. He came to WHL, gave us the best individual display of brilliance that we as fans have seen arguably since our club began and left us with a world record sum of money to fill the gap.

All the best GB11, thanks for you service!

Behave.

Why are you crying and chewing on your used tampax over a rating?

My reasoning is we've sold a player and bought several top-class players in return. I'm sad about it, but Tottenham Hotspur are better off for it.

I don't condone the behaviour, but, hate the game, not the players.

You got a Spam rating because Gareth Bale was pulling the world's best Right Back apart nearly 3 years ago, not 18 months ago, and never looked back after that. A bit more than just 'A season and a half'.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...s-wounds-I-control-brilliant-Gareth-Bale.html

You could say Maicon never recovered after that either.
