There hasn't been one of these threads for a while, and I've had some spare time before crimbo to think.

Who makes up your greatest ever Spurs Team? Proper formation, 7 subs, and 1 Bill Nicholson allowed

Mine is below, with dislike for a certain individual suspended, and I can't believe some of the players I've had to leave out ...

Jennings

Perryman
King
Campbell
Knowles

Blanchflower
Ardiles
Mackay
Bale
Hoddle

Klinsmann

Subs:

Clemence
Mabbutt
England
Gascoigne
Modric

Unfortunately I didn't have the pleasure of seeing any football pre Premier League and can only go back as far as the late 90s when picking my ultimate Spurs XI.

Lloris
Walker - King - Woodgate - Assou Ekotto (circa 2012)
Modric - Parker
Bale - Van der Vaart - Ginola
Sheringham

It's not generational snobbery (I'm 30), I'm just not sure what Bale has achieved at Spurs to be listed alongside the greats. Fantastic player, obviously.

Becoming the most expensive footballer in history? Why does a player's trophy-count have to determine where they are in terms of the best players to play for us? Surely pure ability is more important.

I thought this was greatest Spurs XI in terms of quality not success? In terms of quality I'm sure Bale is one of our greatest players ever.

Not going to post a team as I can only really go on what I've witnessed since 1990. Heard so many good things about the likes of Greaves, Hoddle, Ardiles, Mackay and many more (and seen a fair bit on old video footage), but I couldn't just pick them on reputation alone.

You could argue Bale vs Gascoigne or Dyson if you like. Feel free to post your own teams. Personally I feel that Bale only hit "World class" for about six months, then joined Real Madrid. And for me that counts against him. So does the quality of other great Spurs players.

More interesting is that Cliff Jones was clearly better than Bale, he was the best winger in the world for years, but nobody seems to mind Arnoldtoo leaving him out.
