No Foden was the biggest head scratcher but there was a second one as a US fan waiting for England to turn on the spigot. It is hard to understand why Grealish didn't get isolated on Shaq Moore more often. Shaq was on his heels 1 v 1 with him and Grealish looked like he could go by him every time. But there were so many England players in the same area which meant that Shaq always had defensive support. Thought England missed a chance, actually a bunch of chances by not clearing space for Jack to work his magic in.

It looked clear that we were more than happy with a point and energy conservation. Near the end we got a corner and I'm not sure Trippier could have walked slower over to the corner to take it. The whole game was so slow paced from Englands pov. I fear it'll be the same vs Wales to conserve energy for the ro16.

Beat what's in front of you, then think about the next game. You have a squad of 26 (?). Use them.
Yeah and there was a moment Kane had the ball and there was acres of space for an overlap. Trippier was nowhere to be found and then slowly jogged to get up to Kane's level.

Also a real lack of desire to get bodies into the area.

Pretty clear to me Southgate told the players to play with caution. I mean Kane even mentioned the clean sheet in his tweet which suggests they are happy about that.

TIL CBs 'controlling' the game is Stones and Maguire passing it between themselves for 5 mins at a time under no pressure.
We say this as though it's easy and take it for granted, but we Spurs fans should know full well that we have tried this with Davinson Sanchez and Dier attempting to do exactly this under no apparent pressure and it has had some bad outcomes....just saying ?

Unless I've missed any scenarios out the only way England don't qualify is if we lose 4-0, and the only way we finish second is an Iran win and we fail to beat Wales or a USA win and we lose to Wales.

Given Wales and their predicament they can't relax and will have to go for it, and based on who will definitely play, because I can't see Bale and Ramsey's request to play turned down, and Joe Allen will not last a full 90, and these 3 having very little match fitness and with their defence having two absolutely energy sapping games this is the ideal moment for England to introduce Trent Alexander Arnold in to start. Whilst he has a mistake in him, his sheer pace and crossing and attacking threat is more than worth the risk, as the margin for error we have because of all the scenarios I've described.

The number of times there was no overlapping player when Shaw got forward, or there was no attempt to capitalize on counters was clearly a feature not a bug

The conservatism is just sad given how we could play.

The most technically accomplished group in my lifetime and we have a manager who’s championship level at best managing to wring the life out of them

It’s a shame that we have a player like Kane, and then a manager who doesn’t use this players strengths. It sounds pretty dumb when you say it out loud

Shaw was ambling to take a free kick in a fairly dangerous position near the end too. The sort of urgency normally shown when a few goals up.
Couldn’t believe what I was seeing

I couldn’t watch the game but had a lot of mates who don’t support spurs messaging me slagging off Kane. Was he bad?
He was pretty average but had bugger all service. There were a few poor individual performances - Trippier, Saka, Mount & Sterling particularly imo - but the biggest problem was the system and how Southgate thought we could play the same was as Monday against totally different opposition.

For years, well, since forever, there's been a train of thought amongst England managers and pundits that having world cups at the end of the season doesn't do England any favours due to the workload put on the players. The theory has been that having this world cup now, mid season, puts us at an advantage in that regard and 'no more excuses' is one of the lines i've seen trotted out.

To be honest, I don't care either way, having it now, at the end of the season or even at the beginning, it won't make any difference, we ain't winning the thing

BUT

This tiredness thing is fucking boring, it's gotten so ridiculous now that it won't be long before running out to warm up is seen as a taxing exercise/excuse. Tired? Fuck. Off. You're paid a disgusting amount of money to run around for an hour or two doing something you love and something all of us would give both our bollocks to do. These players aren't exactly being flogged to death and not for one minute do I buy this 'tired' business. Not to the extent that it's reached these days. Fucking hell, they've cut back from a 42 game season, no replays in the FA cup, less rounds in the League cup and whatnot, all to facilitate England in the WC and Euros and because they wanted to reduce the players workload. And how long does a PL game actually last for? 70 minutes? 60? And then we saddle ourselves with an England manager who reduces the need to run around by employing pedestrian and negative tactics left right and centre.

Tired.

Fucking tired. Bollocks :hungry:

#miserable****

#lightbluetouchpaperandrun :D

Gave up reading this after the first paragraph as it was too long and I was tired. Can you summarise?

I've had Americans asking on f/book why USA didn't win based on shots on goal or why it didn't go to penalty kicks. ?

Danny Kelly was on TS few months back, after another bad Spurs performance, and he said something along the lines of 'There are only 2 teams in the world playing this way at the moment. One is Spurs, the other is England. And Harry Kane, the poor sod, one of the most prolific strikers in the world, is playing for both of them. I feel sorry for the bloke.'
Bang on imo.

Spot on! One of my biggest frustrations watching England games is how little work goes into getting Kane the ball in close. He should be the first look for anyone approaching the box but he’s often overlooked and left to pick up deflections and rebounds.
