Why would baldy want to give Kane a raise PLUS insert a release clause in his conract, meaning club loses both financially and in negotiation position?
I think somebody just made that up. The article mentions a pay rise that's it.

It's getting a bit weird in here regarding Kane imo. Some of you need to let the vendetta go.

You'd think he has the sense to realise Levy has already reasserted his authority over the situation. I really can't see him now saying yeah fine harry lets double your salary AND put a release clause in.

No chance.
I can envisage a new contract for Kane to say 2026 or 2027 (when he will be 34), with the same base salary as now, but with substantial bonus increases based on output. eg. goals scored and assists, with bigger bonuses for the more important competitions, and competitions won, again with bigger bonuses for more important competitions, subject to appearances. If that takes him up to £400,000 per week, so be it.
I can also envisage a release clause, but only with a very large release amount of £200-250 million.
That way, he wins if he performs, and so do Tottenham, who also win if he leaves. Both sides have to win.
This is based on Kane having the sense as you state to realise that Levy and the Tottenham board have the authority.

I don't have a problem with Kane wanting a new contract. If we value him as highly as we do then it is only fair to pay him accordingly. In this age with his ability and results that means he will be amongst the highest paid players in the league.

Simply put though, it would be a new contract with new terms and length IMO. If he is determined to leave then he can stay on his current deal, there is no benefit to us upping his wage and giving him a release clause without any additional security for us regarding contract length.

I imagine any release clause we agree to would be time based meaning clubs have a short window to activate it and only active if we fail to achieve our targets eg CL qualification.

Do i object to Harry wanting to leave and win trophies? no. And this is down to a failing of our board.
Do i forgive Harry for the way he has behaved so that he can lead the line for us again this season and help us push on? of course.
Do i forget what he did and how he did it? certainly not. And his reputation will always be permanently scarred now by what has happened.

But i'm 46 years old. Not 12. Forgive the man, get behind the team and support them all this season and let's see what we can do. I for one expect us to have a much better go of it than the dross we were served up last season.
I'm only 45 but I just wanted you to know that even us younger fans agree with you.

Not sure why people are het up about Kane getting a new contract, it's pretty standard fare for a player who's just had a big bid for them turned down. It won't end up being 400k but he'll get a pay bump to keep him happy and shut Charlie up.

If Charlie has anything to do with it he’ll probably end up on less than he is now.

Fuck him and his wage demands. Went in the toilet after this summer.

With that money we could break our wage structure TWICE for two new players.

Three years to go before you can join Pep in Tibet on his sabbatical.

The fucking cheek to admit your three year commitment won't let you fuck off on the cheap only to then ask that three year commitment be upgraded with improved terms.

And what's he gonna do, refuse to train? Lel.

I wouldn’t give him the steam off my piss.

Not wishing to insult, but City are little more than a middle tier (at best) provincial club that have won the lottery multiple times in recent years.
Their fans use to be likable, self depricating, realists that had endured decades of under achievement whilst their larger neighbours swept up with an obscene arrogance and huge amounts of money that propagated a disdain that the whole of football could get behind........City fans hated Utd, and we could largely relate to them.

Since winning the lottery City fans have turned into everything they previously despised - the same "money buys success" arrogance and hollow victories that they use to rally against is now the core of their support......and they are blinded to this and shrug it off as jealousy - go figure!

not sure I’ve seen a better post on a football forum. nailed the sentiment and incredibly well written.

Good argument however I don’t think you can quite say United got to their position by just money, they had a fantastic manager, a huge amount of luck with Giggs, Beckham, Scholes and Neville coming through their academy. It wasn’t bought success. Man City’s is far far more artificial than Man United.

Indeed, but I was more reflecting on the attitude and sentiment of the fans, rather than how the clubs got to their respective positions.
