I have alerted Southampton FC that I live a mere 5 mile drive from St Mary's and 6 miles from their Staplewood Training Ground. I await their call once they offload Ward-Prowse and Lavia.
No need for that; they are already at risk of going bust.I'm looking at buying a house near Telegraph head quarters. I have no interest in working there but I feel it'll be more convenient to C4 the building.
That's a coincidence, since you'd be better searching for the missing link at Stamford Bridge...I live in Shrewsbury, 5 minutes from Charles Darwin childhood house. I’m thinking of popping down and drafting up the theory of evolution….
I agree but I think my post is misunderstood. The Wentworth Estate is pretty exclusive. If he’s building it now he would’ve brought the land ages ago and had to go through planning permission and that would’ve taken time with how strict they are. It may also be a conservation area. This means it’s been going on for some time and doesn’t suggest he’s doing it to join Chelsea. More than likely it’s just a great investment or a great place to live in peace in one of Europes most sort after and private Estates
I love airport ITK.i'm 15 miles from heathrow. WIll be taking a 777 for a spin later if anyone fancies coming along.
While I admire the optimism about not needing the extra 90m come next summer the reality is that transfers don't always work. So the extra budget will always help to smooth that out.One other point - if we sign 2 decent CBs, Maddison and Vicario, do we even need an extra 90m in a year's time.
In theory, we'd be covered at keeper, CB, fullbacks, CM and have a decent selection of wide options. We would no longer be in the urgent 'squad rebuild' stage beyond buying a striker and a wide forward? We could probably get 2 decent players with our usual ~80-120m annual outlay.
Basically - 90m is a lot of money, but it's not that much money in the modern game. Arsenal spent 70m on Pepe ffs while Havertz is still worth 65m after being pretty shite for 3 years. You can easily waste it or not get great value.
It is not a given that he will need to be replaced in the next 1 to 2 years especially if we invest intelligently at center back. While I admire the optimism about not needing the extra 90m come next summer the reality is that transfers don't always work. So the extra budget will always help to smooth that out.
GK and CB are such important positions so even if we focus this summer's budget on it, we might need to do the same next season too.
Adding to that the issue with the likely switch of formation from a back 5 to 4 leaves us in an unknown with most of our full backs we may need to address this area too.
Then there is always the unexpected areas that need addressing. For example who knows what Bentancur will be like post injury, or what will Son be like next season. Will Richarlison ever hit his stride or will we need to replace him too.
Realistically, replacing Kane will be an impossible ask. But we will have to do so either this year or next. With this summer being one of expected rebuild, perhaps its best for Ange if we rip off the bandaid in one go, rather than potentially ruining momentum come next summer. So I would prefer to have the bigger budget so we can get several players to spread the goals around so that 2 or 3 years down the line hopefully we will be back in a position to genuinely compete.
We should have taken the Bale money and bought Suarez from Liverpool.Keep. I’m still traumatised from the waste of Bale money
I don't see any indication that Kane is going to extend his contract. There would need to be a pretty remarkable turn around in the football before he would change his mind. I think Ange is a good appointment but I can't see that sort of change happening in 1 season. It is not a given that he will need to be replaced in the next 1 to 2 years especially if we invest intelligently at center back.
That’s a bit of a narrow way of looking at things. We don’t need to replicate Kane’s goal totals. Not all his goals gained us points which is the desired objective of each game. 1-0 gets you just as many points as 4-0 and scoring 3 goals to lose 4-3 gets you no points. If Kane goes and that is a big 'if', I genuinely think we are fucked.
Son has gone off the boil and struggled for goals, Richy has not shown anything in terms of being consistent in front of goal, Kulu had a poor season also.
As well as a striker who scores a good 20 goals in the league we have to get other players to contribute. The change in formation and tactic will help I am sure. Not only that but Kane's assists need to be covered off as well to just maintain the status quo.
Sadly we are dependant on Kane. We need to find an additional 25-30 goals, 3-5 assists and an incredible number 10 ability to move the ball effortlessly.
I am so torn. I want him to stay but he absolutely deserves to have team honours as well as all of the individual honours he has already accumulated.
Agree. No idea why he’d want to go to ManU. I don’t think they have any better chance of winning something than us. Last season has blinded a lot of people to the fact that this same squad has competed against them and the other top 6, bar City, previously. Last season was a train wreck mainly because Conte completely lost his focus due to 2-3 close friends dying and his health issues. With a new manager and new signings we have a squad more than capable of competing especially with no European football.Yeah, maybe I'm just optimistic and wearing lily-white tinted glasses but apart from City, I'd say we're as appealing as anyone else.
That's taking into account that he's settled here and understanding that we had a shit season but that was due to a lot of things.
We've had a shit season but I don't think we've got a shit squad, especially if we can get some decent additions (which by all accounts we are trying to do).
I don't see any real reason why we can't fight our way up to 'best of the rest' again.
Like seriously competing in the 3 competitions we’re in this season?I read it as a new deal is off the table and won't be on the table as things stand. It literally says there would have to be a significant improvement to even consider it.
Despicable club. I see they just persuaded another Dortmund player to run down his contract so he could join them in a free. More money than any other club in Germany but hate to pay money to the other clubs for their players! “Prudent management” my arse!Ha ha, they really aren't used to not getting their own way are they.
Limited attention span75 out of 100 fans couldn’t tell you the all time scoring record holder. 95 out of 100 can tell you the PL goal scorer record holder. For younger fans, life pretty much did begin with the PL. it’s the highest watched league in the world ffs
Can’t agree with that. It was harder back then. The ball was heavier, the pitches were cow fields and defenders hacked forwards to pieces. If Jimmy Greaves scored that many goals back then under those conditions he’d have doubled that total in the Premier League. Like everything else people never give credit to what went before them.It didn’t start in 92, but you cannot compare football in the sixties to today’s football, either. Kane would have smashed that record if he played at that time.
He’s a golf fanatic for gods sake. That's pretty worrying. Ive no idea if he would or wouldn't go to that scum but the fact it's out there worries me it's his team trying to force a move.
Would love a season with him, Maddison and Sonny without worrying he will join those pricks.
