Having dealt with some German clients recently - who, actually, were some of the nicest blokes I've dealt with in 15 years in the ol' game - they were very keen to do in person meetings, especially at key points during the deal. On speaking to them about this, it's embedded in a lot of their business culture apparently.

I mean that could also be specific to that company, however it would make sense why this nonsense isn't being done by phone/Teams/Zoom/webcam and a prayer.
Plus you can't put Levy in a headlock over Zoom.

No chance they fly over here just to submit a bid which has been circulating in the media and will likely be rejected. I think if this has been arranged for a week or so the plan is to stay for a couple of days until an agreement is reached.

Not that I’m arguing with you, but I’m fairly certain the opposite happens all the time.

Chairmen have meetings for days at a time, sometimes they reach agreements and sometimes they don’t. It’s not a forgone conclusion just because they plan to stay for a few days.

Bayern may have been given an indication that Levy is willing to listen but that doesn’t mean they’ll offer what he wants. Let the games begin.

Benzemas best football was played between the ages of 30 -34.

An opposite end was rooney and Owen, who were washed up in their early 30's

Its different for different players.
There’s even our own example: Moussa’s ability to play two games fell off a cliff in his very early thirties. And there’s nothing to suggest that he wasn’t a consummate professional and didn’t keep himself in top condition.

It’s a long standing German tradition, they always like to visit other countries in person

Of course it is, and those examples prove the point perfectly. It isn’t remotely surprising that Owen and Rooney aged poorly - Owen because he was very dependent on speed and had dodgy hamstrings, and Rooney because of his body shape, lifestyle and miles on the clock.

Agree with all that...except for the fact that he has one year left on his contract.

Contract length being a catalyst for a lower price is pretty much a myth for players of Kane’s calibre. Hazard had a year left on his contract, and he still went for £100 million. Lewangoalski was 34 and had a year left, still went for €45 million iirc.

A players value is solely down to his value to the club holding the contract unless there is a release clause in that contract.

I know it’s talksport but they are saying meeting on Monday now

Probably just trying to give us a few more days to tie up 3 new signings before clubs know we’re rich 😀

Yeah it's not like it's completely random.

Genetics obviously play a massive part (hence Jamie Vardy was scoring 20 goals aged 34 on a diet of pizza and red bulls) but it must also be a combination of factors like professionalism, diet, injury record, reliance on pace, intelligence to adapt playing style, age you start playing top level football, etc.

Beyond genetics which are unknown to us, Kane ticks every single box and seems about as safe a bet as you're likely to find. His football intelligence and technique alone should carry him through to his mid 30s, I'd guess.

Makes perfect business sense to sell Kane now, but I don't support a business, I support a football team.

Hate this idea that *if* we sell Kane, we can go out and buy a centre back or two. Why can we only do that if we sell our greatest ever player? We're not poor. We should be buying those players regardless.

And if we'd done it a couple of years ago, maybe we wouldn't be losing him.

We're a joke.

Except he never played more than 30 league games in a season in his whole time at spurs and had foot and ankle issues for years. So it wasn’t remotely surprising he didn’t age well: it’s almost as if body type, injuries and other factors mean you can have a higher level of confidence in some players maintaining a high level than others….

I’ve been dealing with some Germans on a property purchase and it’s the same with them. They want to meet the agents and solicitors every 5 minutes rather than do things via email. It was infuriating as it slowed things down considerably.

Yeah wasn't Dembele also managing a hip injury on-and-off for years? He had a lot of injury issues.

Eventually is a relative term. We got better within a couple of seasons. I don’t know how old you are but I have followed Spurs for decades. A couple of seasons is not a long time in football.
I'm 42 years old, I've been going since the 80s this isn't my first rodeo. Thanks for the condescending answer though. How many times are we gonna have to get worse?

Levy wringing the fck out of Bayern will make many smile, but when he takes his eye off the three incomings he’ll need to do in good time before the kick off those very same people will surely have no credible defence for him

apart from they moved the goalposts not us

or Booth/Saha/Campbell on loan will still provide good cover

Just me getting passively irritated by these private jets and in person meetings when they have Skype, WhatsApp and numerous other ways to have a conversation?

Pipe down trophy boy. There are people on this forum that haven't even heard the phrase Audere Est Facere. ;)
