Indeed. That's what the scouting network is for though. I like the sound of Orban but also want someone who has played at a higher level. Even Kulusevski is similar age but played a high level in a strong league. It's good to take a risk on youth but I would be more confident if we had an established attacking player too. We've instantly lost a 30 goal striker and still have Richarlison so only adding a prospect is not enough.
I understand but just think we will move away from over reliance on one striker to now a system whereby we'll have contributions from multiple areas.

Nobody can effectively replace Kane but we can evolve as a team/squad and obviously the hope is that we function better than we have done in recent years - at the very least play attractive, exciting football where the players can properly express themselves.

You are ignoring the fact that their owners changed along with key personnel in the top positions.
I'm not. The point I'm (badly) trying to make is that it's really fashionable on here to have a downer on pretty much everything we do, whilst simultaneously wanking into a sock over what other clubs are doing.

Brighton are on a good run, but until they transform themselves into a routine top 6 side I'll hold fire. Other clubs have had a good run, but sustaining that over the long haul is really tough.

Anyway, none of this is about Kane so I'll stop.

Disagree, we need to bring in a proper goalscorer.

Why? All the teams that everyone here is terrified of, like Arsenal, Man U, Newcastle, Liverpool, Brighton and Aston Villa, didn't have a single player who scored more than 19 goals last season. Brighton's highest league goal scorer was Mac Allister with 10.

In the right system, players like Richarlison, Son, Maddison and Kulusevski should be able to get near to the sort of numbers top scorers like Callum Wilson (18), Ollie Watkins (15) and Marcus Rashford (17) contributed to their teams last year. If they all fail to do so, I'll be very disappointed. But don't judge them on last season.

Cant help thinking Kane will look back on this move and feel it was a mistake in his career.

Much like when Dr Strange strikes a deal with Dormamu and tells the zealots 'you're not going to like it'

We just talked about when Harry played first time for us in PL, I must admit I was sceptical and many were the same like me. Let’s hope we got as good gem as him

Went to bed with the news Harry was going, woke up to the news Harry is going. Begs one question, what the hell were the night shift doing in here last night? The day shift changed the outcome 4-5 times yesterday and you couldn't change it once. Pfft.

Kane staying always came down to Levy making a footballing decision and taking a financial risk, which was never gonna happen.

But fuck it. It's done (well nearly) and we move on. Our season starts in a couple of days and players are gonna have to step up. Sonny is gonna have to find his golden boot winning form, Richy is gonna have to stay fit and find the net more consistently. And hopefully with Ange's style the rest of Kane's goals are shared between the rest.

We're not in a position to be able to bring in an adequate replacement, so get what Ange needs but don't piss away the rest on more average players for the sake of it.

For all the talk of systems though, I don’t think it’s crazy to suggest better players in a good system would be even more effective. A club the size of Tottenham. It shouldn’t be system v players, it should be both.

It was strange him posting that on Instagram last night!
He could just have come across a decent photo of himself and posted it given we are a few days out from the new season. He may not have even thought about the fact he was wearing the armband. Footballers not always the most switched on.

Cheer up guys, the last time we sold a player for big money Levy pinballed around Europe like he was on the billy until he'd spunked it all :D

Levy time!

And with different tactics some of those players possibly start better, don't lose confidence and end up being good signings. This time around we seem to have a coach that will create plenty of chances for midfielders and forwards.
Exactly this. When I thought about these players again now, I couldn’t help but wonder how different things could have been if it had happened under someone other than AVB. (Not that I have any beef with him particularly)

I think a lot of people are imagining what a Mourinho/Nuno/Conte team looks like without Kane and are projecting that onto what the team will look like this season without Kane. I think we need to give Ange a chance before we start predicting doomsday scenarios about how much we're going to struggle to replace Kane's goals.

I [foolishly, in hindsight] wrote in reply to a scouse mates tweet
'Don't you worry about us, Harry Kane is getting no where near the Spurs 1st team'.

Turned out well 🤣 and the prick takes great delight in posting it on FB every year on the anniversary 🤣🤣

Kane was like a barometer for hoping for success under Levy. Now he's gone which says it all

We should have bought VDV AND Tapsoba because the amounts involved are affordable for a club of our stature with the revenues from the stadium etc which we were promised would be a game changer. We haven’t invested anywhere near what we should have on our defence for years

it is no argument that the likes of Ndombele or our other big buys failed. This is what decent - not even top class - players cost these days. You need to pay those figures AND get the scouting right. We’ve been shit with the scouting so now use that as an excuse to just buy cheap, but that’s a recipe for mediocrity on the pitch and a bloated squad full of deadwood we can’t be rid of

our biggest purchases ever are in the region of what the teams around us are now paying for squad players. We seem more reluctant to buy established talent since the stadium was finished than we were before - so what was the bloody point. Why were the Poch years hamstrung by the stadium at all then. Imagine what we would have achieved if we had backed Poch the way Arsenal have backed Arteta, I’d have taken that and kept WHL

none of this current rebuild should have been contingent on Kane leaving. Now that he has we should be all over Vlahovic or a similar profile. But of course we won’t be it’ll be cheap potential aka next summers deadwood

We are going backwards and I’m sick of it.
Hey - keep your chin up.

Would you have preferred we go backwards now with a big fee to use or next year with none? We can't change tides.

This is a rebuild and the best time for this is at the start of it all.

The question of whether a player would be willing to join us is an entirely different one. Removing that from the equation, Vlahovic, Kolo Muani, Martinez or David could probably be bought for that.
It’s not at all. It’s completely relevant. If asking what we can spend £100m on, who we can buy, for what price and is willing to join us 100% the point.
