Now that he's gone...

How do people think he stacks up compared to Hoddle, Blanchflower, Greaves, Perryman, Mabbutt, etc..?
Things are a bit raw at the moment, and there is a lot of salt in the thread cure (understandable), but he is clearly in the very upper echelon of Spurs players. An all time legend.

Maybe. Arguably handled it better than Kane then who spat his dummy out.
Experienced agent will have helped.

Think that's why I don't have any seriously bad thoughts about Bale. And wouldn't have done with the others if they had gone about things a bit better. It's still not easy to lose your best players and i'd still be angry, but there's always a right way to do things and make things not so bad. Not convinced the disrespectful behaviour secured their moves rather than the clubs ultimately came up with the money we wanted.

I would not be at all surprised if he is back in a Spurs shirt in 2-3 years time. And if that happens he could well end up being our best ever player. But some of the names you mention are legends of the club whose records only look better with age.

I don't think Charlie Kane gives Harry Kane a pass. It was Harry who decided he was above the club and could do what he wanted.

Just on those three:

Blanchflower changed football.] not just THFC. a true revolutionary.
Greaves was a better pure goalscorer. If we had wanted to keep him longer he'd have extended the goalscoring record and been unbeatable.
Hoddle just had the most unbelievable vision and skill. Like Pele and Maradona levels on occasion.

This is not just feeling raw because he's just gone. But i just don't see he's better than them on their core strengths.

Glass ankles, let us down in every final, biggest success has been without him in team, etc, etc 👀

Agree. But also think he believed what Charlie was telling him were the right things to do - the things Charlie thought all players get up to to force a move.

Bit early yet, need the dust to settle first but I wouldn't currently put him up there with the absolute legends like Blanchflower, Mabbs and Ledders.

He's been a great player but let's face it, he's wanted to leave for the past couple of years and this is his second time agitating for a move.
That whole City saga and how he behaved changed the way I thought about him and that's probably why I'm not actually sad that he's gone now.
I was fuming after the Neville interview and his refusal to return to training, not to mention the bullshit statement he put out that treated us fans as mugs.

Once he's retired, I'm sure I'll think differently but for now, fuck him.
We move on.

I think it's why I'm more bitter/scornful/snide toward him about this than most. He was adored, celebrated individually more than any Spurs player I've seen - and he went on strike, trying to force a move away. And people welcomed him back, and the song continued, and there's been nothing but adoration, even up to last weekend. And then he leaves two days before the season starts, having clearly not had any intention of staying, sort of forcing us to sell him or lose him for nothing.

It's just pretty clear he doesn't care about us. And given that we've had more loyal players - Son, for one - not get nearly the same regard because they weren't seen as one of us like he was, that sucks. People can argue it's just a job or to take the emotion out, but sport is emotion, and people felt a connection, and that connection quite clearly was just convenient for Kane rather than anything he shared.

Could've been a club legend. Won't be at Bayern. Totti only won three cups with Roma, but he's more fondly remembered than many who won more. It could've meant more. It just obviously didn't.
I think part of what has made Kane as good as he is is his lack of emotion. He is so driven, I honestly do not believe that he has this love for Spurs that some think. We as fans love to romanticise the game but I think that disappeared a long time ago.
