Harry Redknapp will recall Wilson Palacios today - to placate the Honduran international's formidable mother.
Tottenham messiah Redknapp bumped into Palacios and his mum, Orfilia, on a shopping trip in the West End - and she complained that her long-haul trip to watch her son playing for Spurs had been wasted.
Palacios has started only three Premier League games this season after being squeezed out of the frame in midfield by Jermaine Jenas and Tom Huddlestone, and King 'Arry's £13 million signing from Wigan is no longer a dead cert on the teamsheet.
But Redknapp, who always intended to "freshen up" his team after Spurs' dramatic 4-3 Champions League defeat by Inter Milan on Wednesday night, made his mind up about one position after his chance meeting with the daunting Mrs Palacios.

He said: "I remember Wilson getting sent off against Portsmouth in the FA Cup semi-final and thinking, 'Well, that's the end of our season' because he was so important to us.
"But then we beat Arsenal and Chelsea the following week, we went on to finish in the Champions League places and suddenly it's been difficult to get him in the side every week.
"Jermaine has done well, Tom has been in great form and Luka Modric has been fantastic for us while Wilson has had a little dip in form. But he's a great guy - he trains hard, he's ready to play again and he'll come back.
"He's still great to have around the place and I've got to play him against Everton, really - because I met him when he was out shopping with his mum the other day while I was in town with my wife.
"She can't speak much English, but Wilson's mum was telling me she had come to England to watch him play and I hadn't been playing him - and she was quite a big girl, so I've got to play him!
"I wasn't going to mess with her, believe you me - she didn't need a handbag, I reckon a right-hander would have been enough. So I went, 'Don't worry, Mrs Palacios, he'll play, he'll play.'
"To be fair, we wouldn't be where we are now without Wilson. When he first came here from Wigan, I thought he turned us round. He did great.
"And he hasn't been sulking since the World Cup because he's a grafter, a worker. He's come from a poor background, the kid, hasn't he? I think he loves playing here and he hasn't forgotten his roots."
Happily, Redknapp has yet to suffer the same fate as boxer Steve McCarthy in 1993, who was clubbed over the head with a stiletto shoe by opponent Tony Wilson's mother, Minna, after her son had been knocked down in a British light heavyweight title fight. McCarthy left the ring with blood seeping from a head wound and Wilson was awarded the fight on a technical knockout.
Meanwhile, the Spurs manager celebrates two years in charge at White Hart Lane on Monday. As a club, they are unrecognisable from the no-speaker-da-lingo era of Juande Ramos.
Redknapp said: "We've gone from having two points in eight games to playing at the San Siro in the Champions League, so we've come a long way in two years.
"The only thing that scares you is that it's another two years out of your life and you think, 'Where's it gone?' It only seems like 10 minutes ago that I was driving round to Daniel Levy's house to meet the chairman - and not really sure whether I wanted to come here or not.
"As much as it was a good move, I was very happy where I was. It wasn't an easy decision, I've got to be truthful. It was very difficult, and in my wildest dreams I never thought it could have gone so well.
"But I don't celebrate anniversaries in football - I can't even remember my own wedding anniversary. I've still got last year's card to the missus in my car, so I've got no chance.
"And I'm not the type of manager who eve sits back and thinks, 'Aren't I doing well?' I don't get carried away, mainly because it will be the end of the world again tomorrow night if we lose to Everton.
 Gotta love Harry

I thought that at the time, sat at Wembley and it felt like in one moment our whole season had fallen apart. It was probably the lowest moment I've ever had as a Spurs fan, and only when Danny Rose popped one on from 30 yards did I even start believing again. That was an incredible couple of weeks after that.

Yeah it's such a lie as well, everyone knows we had 21 points from 7 when he took over.

Palacios was immense that season and if Harry can get him playing to that level and intensity again then he will be a massive asset again. Looks like he's trying the old tactic of an ego boost to see if that brings him out of his shell.

Maybe Palacios will give a monster performance with his mom watching,
personally I'd go with Sandro and Modric today though with van der Vaart ahead of them.

Bit confused. On the front page version, he talks about the Blackburn sending off (joke decision) in April 2009 which saw us lose 2-1 late on and ultimately cost us the Europa spot (thankfully to be fair). But on this version, he talks about the Pompey semi where he didn't actually get sent off but booked for the 47th time and suspended- and to be fair, that was in some ways the worst part of that debacle, that it potentially fucked up our fourth spot chances, which it then didn't.

So yeah a bit confused, though could be the 7 pints of the black stuff.

Are we seriously expected to believe that Arry 'I'm not a wheeler dealer, I'm a fuckin football manager' Redknapp is playing Palacious because his mum is in town visiting?

Just a slight point-of-order: 'Arry says Wilson comes from a poor background, but I have read an interview with The Sergeant where he specifically says he comes from a comfortable middle-class home.

Unlike some, I find a great deal of amusement in 'Arry and very little malice, but sometimes I think he just says things with absolutely no idea what he is talking about:grin:

Or he just doesn't care what he says... think that's more believable than not having a clue

Harry has suprised me in so many ways since becoming manager. Just because he has a cockney accent he has a certain image, which he happily cultivates, but he is a very astute man who is able to get his players to perform at their best.

Unlike us fans, who just decide that a player is no longer any good etc, harry actually believes in his and his players ability to perform. He plays players based on form and all of the players know that if they train well and play well they will get a chance. Wilson will come good again because Harry will once again get the best from him.
