To be honest I don't understand why Carroll has been ahead of him in the 1st team squad. He looks to be tougher, bigger, have a turn of pace, brave on the ball, passess it forward. I don't see why he's been kept back.

I'm not convinced that he was bigger or tougher than Carroll a year ago...but he was a teenager.

I thought he looked good when he came on for 15 mins last year in Sydney. I hope he comes through this year and stays with the first team squad.

First time i'm really getting to see Winks. Really like what I see. Maybe it could be that Poch is getting rid of Bentaleb to push Winks up the pecking order.

Looks busier than Bentaleb and is happy to mix up passing and dribbling. Also he's very quick into the tackle and terrier-like which I never thought Bentaleb was.

Good player. He has a busy style like Scholes did, and receives the ball on the half turn looking to play forward all the time. It's clear to see he has received good coaching, but the lad has bundles of natural ability.

I fancy him to get plenty of game time off the bench next season, and establish himself further as he progresses.

Proper player, this years breakout star. They have obviously worked hard on this kid.

I heard people praising him after yesterday's game and then I watched the game on record later. Was a little disappointed if I'm honest. Not saying he hasn't got potential but if that's him playing well...

The thing is I don't think there's much between him and Carroll so if we can get some money for Carroll then great. Just push winks one up the pecking order

What were you expecting, an Iniesta type performance?

I thought the same thing, also seems to favour his right foot quite a lot but that may be due to him being nervous and trying to not take to many risks using his non favoured.

I feel like Poch could turn him into a fantastic player.
I thought that too, but then when have you ever seen Modrić use his left foot for a pass? What I did notice about Winks use of both feet is that he is more than happy to take the first touch with his left, and make it a good one too.

THIS.

I've said it numerous times and I'll keep saying it despite the neg reps; We wasted minutes on carrol last season. Winks should have been the rotation CM.

Carroll played pretty well actually last season. He was a regular presence in the starting XI for much of that winter run that ammassed us a lot of points.

He had one outstanding half against Everton but apart from that, he never really performed above 'OK' for us in the league imo.

It's the little things that make the difference. For example, if he had been called 'Harry Wanks' I suspect his life would have turned out very differently.

Don't worry, when he's played a few more first team games our WHU chums will soon be calling him that.

It appears that maybe Carroll is one of Poch's favorites (if he has any, which I assume he would). he must see something in him that's for sure. Mind you Poch's patience and work with Lamela are now paying off so hears hoping Carroll is on the up!
